Malaysian Firms At SIAL China 2014 Generated RM38.9 Million Sales
14/06/2014 (Bernama) - The 20 Malaysian companies taking part at the recent three-day SIAL China 2014 food trade fair in Shanghai generated total sales of RM38.9 million and received over 1,500 trade enquiries, said the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE).
It was Malaysia's eighth participation in the trade fair since 2004, MATRADE said in a statement Friday.
"Malaysian companies promoted palm oil-based products, beverages, frozen food, bakery products, food ingredients, confectionery and ready-to-eat products and functional food.
"Due to stringent food safety control in China, the increasingly affluent consumers in the country prefer to consume and purchase imported food products as they are perceived as high quality after passing through stringent import procedures," it said.
This annual event features the world's leading retail and food service buyers, and has become an interesting import platform for major market players from the retail, catering, food services, import/export trade and manufacturing sectors.
