Activity at Karachi and Qasim Ports

09/06/2014 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 117,170 tonnes of cargo comprising 88,572 tonnes of import cargo and 28,598 tonnes of export cargo including 7,005 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 88,572 tonnes comprised of 60,415 tonnes of containerised cargo; 24,129 tonnes of general cargo and 4,028 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 28,598 tonnes comprised of 19,650 tonnes of containerised cargo; 128 tonnes of general cargo; 1,820 tonnes of cement and 7,000 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 7,005 containers comprising 3,372 containers import and 3,633 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday. The breakup of imported containers shows 1,414 of 20's and 976 of 40's loaded while 6 of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 508 of 20's and 225 of 40's loaded containers while 1,171 of 20's and 752 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were five ships namely Wan Hai-512, HS Everest, Silver Point, Global Brave and Mu Dan Song carrying containers, oil tankers, coal and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were eight vessels viz. UASC Khor Fakkan, Hansa Africa, Liquid Gold, Sunrise Eco, Ioannis-G, Arikun, Genco Auvergne and Heilan Brother carrying containers, oil tankers, cement, coal and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.

There were seven ships namely UASC Khor Fakkan, Hansa Africa, Vinalines Galaxy, Mercini Lady, Liquid Gold, CSC Zhong Hai and Heilan Brother carrying containers, oil tankers and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea on Friday, while two ships namely Ever Pearl and Hyundai Jakarta carrying containers respectively are expected to sail on Saturday. There are two vessels viz. Laurel Galaxy and Turgut Reis carrying oil tanker and talcum powder respectively due to arrive on Saturday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 69,361 tonnes comprising 33,669 tonnes of import cargo and 35,692 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 1,542 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Friday.

The total import cargo of 33,669 tonnes includes 17,079 tonnes of edible oil and 16,590 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 35,692 tonnes includes 19,900 tonnes of crude oil and 15,792 tonnes of containerised cargo. There were two ships namely CV Kerstins and MT Alpine Liberty with containers and oil tanker sailed out sea on Friday morning, while another ship namely CV Tessa with containers is expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of five vessels viz. CV Kerstins, CV Tessa, MT Alpine Liberty, MT Nave Universe and MT Argent Bloom currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, crude oil and palm oil respectively during the last 24 hours. As many as six ships namely CMA CGM Florida, Hansa Africa, Al-Soor-II, Barizo, Anema E Core and Han Hui with containers, diesel oil, furnace oil and general cargo are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.

There were four vessels carrying containers, soyabean and edible oil took berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Thursday. There are four ships namely CV CMA CGM Florida, CV Hansa Africa, MT Al-Soor-II and MV Han Hui with containers, diesel oil and general cargo due to arrive on Friday.
