Activities at Karachi and Qasim Ports

04/06/2014 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 266,259 tonnes of cargo comprising 222,699 tonnes of import cargo and 43,560 tonnes of export cargo including 2,111 loaded and empty containers during the last 48 hours ending at 0700 hours on Monday. The total import cargo of 222,699 tonnes comprised of 33,313 tonnes of containerised cargo; 5,639 tonnes of general cargo; 65,457 tonnes of coal and 118,290 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 43,560 tonnes comprised of 24,148 tonnes of containerised cargo; 130 tonnes of general cargo; 4,432 tonnes of bulk cargo: 740 tonnes of cement; 3,692 tonnes of loose bulk cement and 14,560 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 2,111 containers comprising 1,732 containers import and 379 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Monday.

The break-up of imported containers shows 720 of 20's and 420 of 40's loaded while 22 of 20's and 75 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 83 of 20's and 66 of 40's loaded containers while nil of 20's and 82 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were eleven ships namely UASC Khor Fakkan, Eleni-1, Cosco Kawasaki, Kota Hapas, Meli, FPMC-17, Omera Queen, Golden Gion, Somerset, Ikan Salmon and King Success carrying containers, oil tanker, cement, coal and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were seven vessels viz. Kota Hapas, Santa Rosa, MOL Dignity, N Mars, Omera Queen, Global Brave and Veruda carrying containers, oil tankers and coal respectively currently at the berths.

There was one ship namely N Mars carrying oil tanker sailed out to sea on Monday, while three ships namely ACX Crystal, Santa Rosa and MOL Dignity carrying containers respectively are expected to sail on Tuesday. There were five vessels viz. ACX Crystal, HS Everest, OOCL New York, Topaz-T and Mu Dan Song carrying containers, hexane and general cargo due to arrive on Monday, while another vessel viz. Muro Rain carrying project cargo is due to arrive on Tuesday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 42,506 tonnes comprising 35,856 tonnes of import cargo and 6,650 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 1,069 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Monday.

The total import cargo of 35,856 tonnes includes 18,889 tonnes of diesel oil; 3,300 tonnes of edible oil and 13,667 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo includes 6,650 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 1,069 containers comprising 719 containers import and 350 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Monday.

There were two ships namely CV ACX Crystal and MT Fang Hai-36 with containers and edible oil sailed out sea on Monday morning, while another ship namely CV Maersk Chicago with containers is expected to sail on the same day afternoon. A total number of four vessels viz. CV ACX Crystal, CV Maersk Chicago, MT Ping An and MT Fang Hai-36 were occupied berths to load/offload containers and palm oil respectively during the last 24 hours.

As many as five ships namely MSC Didem, Alpine Liberty, Stela Nava, Able Sailor and Argent Bloom with containers, chemical, general cargo and edible oil are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. There were four vessel viz. CV RHL Fiducia, CV Safmarine Ngami, MV Stela Nava and MT Able Sailor carrying containers, general cargo and edible oil expected to took berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Multi Purpose Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Monday. There is one ships namely MT Karachi with oil tanker due to arrive on Monday.
