28/05/2014 (Bernama) - TH Plantations Bhd is eyeing a fresh fruit bunch (FFB) yield of 1.3 million by 2017. It is also aiming for an annual FFB growth rate of around 12 per cent.

Chief Executive Officer Datuk Zainal Azwar Aminuddin said last year, TH Plantations achieved production of about 23.86 tonnes per hectare, which was higher when compared to 2012.

"For this year, we are targeting an average of 22 tonnes per hectare for the group, with about 44 per cent of total production, expected to come from Sarawak.

"By 2017, this is expected to grow to 66 per cent in terms of contribution to the Group," he told reporters after the company's annual general meeting here, Tuesday.

On capital expenditure, Zainal said the Group has allocated RM105 million for this year to be spent on the development of new mills, and as well as other expenses.

Commenting on the El Nino phenomena which is expected to occur in the second half of this year, he said the 2014 outlook for the company would still be stable.

"Many analysts have predicted the El Nino. But, to date, it has been raining almost daily.

"If it does happen, there will be an impact on the crude palm oil (CPO) production, supply, and this will push prices up to the region of RM2,500 - RM2,600 on an average for the year," he added.

Zainal Azwar said the major? impact of the El Nino would be next year and in 2016 with lower FFB production of about 10-15 per cent, should it happen.
