Activity At Karachi and Qasim Ports
16/04/2014 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 208,321 tonnes of cargo comprising 147,586 tonnes of import cargo and 60,735 tonnes of export cargo including 3,397 loaded and empty containers during the last 48 hours ending at 0700 hours on Monday. The total import cargo of 147,586 tonnes comprised of 34,167 tonnes of containerised cargo; 25,761 tonnes of general cargo; 11,603 tonnes of soyabean meal and 76,055 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 60,735 tonnes comprised of 16,845 tonnes of containerised cargo; 30 tonnes of general cargo; 29,360 tonnes of bulk cargo: 7,084 tonnes of cement; 12,066 tonnes of loose bulk cement; 10,210 tonnes of talcum powder and 14,500 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 3,397 containers comprising 1,589 containers import and 1,808 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Monday.
The breakup of imported containers shows 815 of 20's and 387 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 395 of 20's and 281 of 40's loaded containers while 321 of 20's and 265 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were five ships namely Al-Mahboobah, Marinor, SCF Plymouth, Urania and Maha-B carrying oil tankers and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were nine vessels viz. MOL Direction, ACX Diamond, Hanjin Lousiana, Al-Mahboobah, Marinor, CSC Cyanite, Somerset, Yellow Fin and African Hawk carrying containers, oil tankers, cement and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.
There were three ships namely ACX Diamond, Somerset and Yellow Fin carrying containers, cement and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea on Monday, while two ships namely MOL Direction and Behshad with containers respectively are expected to sail on Tuesday.
There are four vessels viz. Hyundai Jakarta, Japan, SAM Jaguar and Daebo Masan carrying containers, coal and iron powder respectively due to arrive on Monday, while six vessels viz. X-Press Kailash, Santa Rosa, Simoa, Ashahda, Argent Aster and Faith carrying containers, oil tankers, ethanol and steel coil respectively are due to arrive on Tuesday.
PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 44,632 tonnes comprising 43,687 tonnes of import cargo and 945 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 271 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Monday.
The total import cargo of 43,687 tonnes includes 38,941 tonnes of furnace oil and 4,746 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo includes 945 tonnes of containerised cargo. There was no ship sailed out to sea on Monday. A total number of four vessels viz. CV Maersk Denver, MV Pacific Sun, MT Beech-4 and MT Ardmore Centurion were occupied berths to load/offload containers, chemicals, furnace oil and palm oil respectively during the last 24 hours.
As many as five ships namely Maersk Denver, CMA CGM Okapi, Safmarine Ngami, Al-Salam-II and Yas with containers, diesel oil and chemicals are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. There were four vessels viz. carrying containers, chemicals, furnace oil and palm oil took berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Engro Vopak Terminal, FOTCO Terminal, and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Sunday.
