Activity at Karachi and Qasim Ports

22/03/2014 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 130,915 tonnes of cargo comprising 86,219 tonnes of import cargo and 44,696 tonnes of export cargo including 5,445 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 86,219 tonnes comprised of 32,469 tonnes of containerised cargo; 150 tonnes of general cargo; 12,100 tonnes of coal and 41,500 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 44,696 tonnes comprised of 36,078 tonnes of containerised cargo; 285 tonnes of general cargo and 1,805 tonnes of cement. As many as 5,445 containers comprising 3,072 containers import and 2,373 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday. The breakup of imported containers shows 1,033 of 20's and 413 of 40's loaded while 735 of 20's and 239 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 1,148 of 20's and 220 of 40's loaded containers while 171 of 20's and 307 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were seven ships namely Kota Hapas, Hyundai Bangkok, X-Press Kailash, YM Eminence, Eagle Milan, Ratna Puja and Liberty Grace with containers, oil tankers and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were six vessels viz. Cosco Kawasaki, Kota Kaya, PAC Aries, Hansa Africa, UAFL Zanzibar and Tabernacle Prince carrying containers and cement respectively currently at the berths.

There were four ships namely Cosco Kawasaki, Kota Kaya, PAC Aries and Hansa Africa with containers respectively sailed out to sea on Thursday, while two ships namely Arietis and Tabernacle Prince with oil tanker and cement respectively are expected to sail on Friday. There were three vessels viz. APL Sydney, Pristine GV and Sea Wave carrying containers, oil tanker and cement respectively due to arrive on Thursday, while three vessels viz. Lissy Schulte, UASC Ajman and Rickmers Chennai carrying containers and general cargo respectively are due to arrive on Friday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 84,404 tonnes comprising 66,371 tonnes of import cargo and 18,033 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 1,300 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargo of 66,371 tonnes includes 36,381 tonnes of furnace oil; 9,739 tonnes of palm oil; 8,851 tonnes of phosphoric acid c and 11,400 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 18,033 tonnes includes of 4,733 tonnes of cement and 13,300 tonnes of containerised cargo.

As many as 1,300 containers comprising 600 containers import and 700 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday. There are three ships namely CV CMA CGM Rossini, MV Thelisis and MT Brizo with containers, cement and furnace oil expected to sail on Thursday afternoon. A total number of five vessels viz. CV CMA CGM Rossini, MV Thelisis, MV Mercur, MT Chemroad Haya and MT Brizo were occupied berths to load/offload containers, cement, Phosphoric acid, palm oil and furnace oil respectively during the last 24 hours.

As many as seven ships namely CMA CGM Coral, Express Makalu, Beech-4, MT Karachi, Al-Salam-II, Intrepid Republic and Sappire-T with containers, furnace oil, diesel oil, and chemicals are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. There are three vessels viz. CV CMA CGM Coral, CV Express Makalu and CV Cap Andreas carrying containers expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal on Thursday. There is one ship namely CV Hansa Africa with containers due to arrive on Friday. There are two vessels viz CV Alliance Stlouls and CV Cap Andreas carrying containers due to arrive at Port Qasim as per schedule.
