Key Oils And Fats Industry Players To Grace MPOB Seminar
16/01/2014 (Bernama) - Key players from the oils and fats industry will grace the Palm Oil Economic Review and Outlook Seminar 2014 here on Jan 23.
The seminar, organised by the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) will be officiated by Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah.
In a statement here Wednesday, the MPOB said the key players from the billion ringgit industry, will be sharing their views on the sector's outlook for the year at the seminar.
It also said that the event had attracted players from both the upstream and downstream segments.
Themed, "Palm Oil: Leveraging Availability and Export Structure to Meet Global Demand", the commodity's export tax structure will also be discussed at the seminar.
Both Indonesia and Malaysia will present papers on the issue, focusing on its influence over the 2014 oils and fats' consumption trend.
MPOB Director-General Datuk Dr Choo Yuen May said she would be sharing on Malaysia's 2013 palm oil performance and 2014 outlook, while Prof Endang Gumbira Said of Bogor Agricultural University will represent Indonesia.
"Views and comments from the annual event have always been of interest to the oils and fats industry players. The information shared at the seminar, somewhat sets the tone of the industry's performance for the year.
"Speakers from palm oil consumer nations will provide updates on developments taking place in their respective countries in the edible oils sector,", she added.
The issue on renewable energy will also take centre stage at the seminar.
Sandra Dunphy from Houston-based Weaver & Tidwell, will be presenting a paper,"Updates on the Developments of Renewable Fuel Standard 2 (RFS2) in the United States".
Malaysia's oil palm industry is an important sector, generating growth for the country and is the mainstay of the rural economy.
