11/01/2014 (Bernama) - The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Friday launched "Malaysia eBiz", an online weekly business bulletin presented in a newspaper format.

Malaysia eBiz will provide a round-up of economic, business and selected corporate sector news during the week. Its launch also serves to meet the increasing demand for online economic news.

Bernama Chairman Datuk Abdul Rahman Sulaiman said the weekly business bulletin made its debut at 7.30 pm today, and was also in line with the preference of readers for online news as opposed to print.

"The preference of people today is to get their information online, as seen from the diminishing audience from the aspect of print," he told the media at Wisma Bernama here Friday after launching Malaysia eBiz.

"Readers' interest towards economic and financial news is also on the rise, with most, if not almost all newspapers, having a business page.

"But as we know, a section of readers, prefer to source news from the internet. So, we came up with this, and it is timely for us to take advantage of the new media audience," Abdul Rahman said.

He said through the launch of Malaysia eBiz which can be followed at http://ebiz.bernama.com/, it will make it easier for people to keep abreast of economic developments and business news from anywhere.

"We hope this news portal will be another avenue for the business community to source for news," he added.

According to Abdul Rahman, Malaysia eBiz which is being produced in English, could be switched to Bahasa Malaysia if there was demand.

He highlighted that the launch of Malaysia eBiz was the second in the series of transformations being undertaken by Bernama towards efforts to expand revenue from its services.

"We hope to come out with more new products in the future," he said.

The bulletin comprises two segments, a Weekly Roundup and Market Outlook, which will include events, announcements, market reports and analyses

The Weekly Roundup is a 10-page summary of selected business news including current issues and developments that are of interest to the business community, investors, professionals and even consumers.

This segment will be uploaded after 7.30 pm every Friday.

Market Outlook contains four pages of reports and analyses on interest rates, stocks, foreign exchange, commodity markets including crude palm oil, rubber, tin and gold futures, which will be released after 12.30 pm every Saturday.
