28/12/2013 (Bernama) - Sirim Bhd, following its success in producing the world's first bio natural gas (BioNG), is seeking foreign and local strategic partners to help it commercialise the output.

Its President/Chief Executive, Dr Zainal Abidin Mohd Yusof, said the among the strategic cooperation Sirim sought included financial support, gas suppliers and 'partner' users.

"The pilot project to produce biogas, which is located in Carey Island, is fully completed and is now producing the BioNg on a commercial scale.

"If there are interested companies, they can come and meet us for discussions," he said in an interview with Bernama in conjunction with the launch of two pilot projects in Kudat, Sabah, recently.

Zainal said BioNG, a renewable product from palm oil effluents, could become an alternative fuel, which currently depended on the generation of electricity.

"The fuel has been successfully tested on vehicles," he said.

He said the pilot project yielded 25 cu metres of biogas an hour and if it were to operate for 24 hours, it could supply 40 cars a day.

Zainal said Sirim has negotiated with a giant agro-based company to build the system in Keratong (Pahang) and in Lahat Datu or other potential areas in east Sabah.

"We have not signed any agreement yet because the negotiations were at preliminary stage," he said.
