Palm Oil Technical Mission To The People's Republic Of China 8 - 10 December 2013
07/12/2013 (Bernama) - YB Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities will be leading a Palm Oil Technical Mission to the People's Republic of China from 8 to 10 December 2013. The delegation comprises representatives from the Ministry, the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) and the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC).
The objectives of this mission are to:
- visit MPOB and MPOC office in Shanghai to discuss on palm oil market situation and progress made on palm oil research activities in China;
- convene bilateral meetings with the Minister of National Health and Family Planning Commission, and Minister of China Food and Drug Administration, on measures to promote palm oil in China; and
- deliver a keynote address at the Palm Oil Health and Nutrition Seminar organise by MPOB in Beijing, China on Monday, 9 December 2013.
The bilateral meetings with the Minister of National Health and Family Planning Commission, and Minister of China Food and Drug Administration is aimed at discussing measures to strengthen palm oil exports and use in China. These include possible collaboration activities in research.
The Palm Oil Health and Nutritional Seminar in Beijing on Monday, 9 December 2013 is aimed at diseminating information on the latest development in the use of palm oil for food and non-food purposes. In addition, the speakers at the seminar will also share research information on the nutritional benefits of palm oil.
China is the largest export destination for palm oil and palm oil products and accounts for 17.7% of Malaysia’s total global exports in 2012. In 2012, Malaysia exported palm oil and palm oil products valued at RM12.8 billion (4.36million tonnes). For the period January to October 2013, palm oil products exported to China were valued at RM9.02 billion (3.9 million tonnes). China is also an important export destination for other commodity products, where rubber products exported were valued at RM9.12 billion, timber products at RM634.3 million, cocoa products at RM376.9 million and pepper products at RM28.55 million.
