Activity At Karachi and Qasim Ports
20/09/2013 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 150,269 tonnes of cargo comprising 132,001 tonnes of import cargo and 18,268 tonnes of export cargo including 6,352 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargo of 132,001 tonnes comprised 54,354 tonnes of containerised cargo; 36,927 tonnes of bulk cargo: 22,151 tonnes of coal; 6,573 tonnes of DAP; 5,251 tonnes of rape seed; 1,303 tonnes of palm kernel expeller; 1,649 tonnes of soyabean meal and 40,720 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 18,268 tonnes comprised 17,187 tonnes of containerised cargo; 95 tonnes of general cargo; and 986 tonnes of cement. As many as 6,352 containers comprising 4,160 containers import and 2,192 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday. The brakeup of imported containers shows 993 of 20's and 1,435 of 40's loaded while 85 of 20's and 106 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 390 of 20's and 335 of 40's loaded containers while 180 of 20's and 476 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There are six ships namely Paul Russ, AS Carelia, UASC Shuwaikh, Lodestar Grace, Akaki and Oriole with three container ships, two oil tankers and one coal carrier respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There are six vessels viz OOCL Texas, UASC Shuwaikh, Kota Gembira, Hyundai New York, Posen and NCC Amal with five container ships and one oil tanker respectively are currently at the berths.
There are three ships namely Kota Gembira, Posen and NCC Amal with two container ships and one oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea on Wednesday, while two ships namely Hyundai New York and Diana with one container ship and one DAP carrier respectively are expected to sail on Thursday.
There are two vessels viz Finisterre and Ocean Globe with one container ship and one naphtha tanker respectively due to arrive on Wednesday, while six vessels viz Santa Rosa, APL Sokhna, Hansa Nordburg, Rio Blanco, Al-Qadisia and HHL Valparaiso with four container ships, one LSFO tanker and one general cargo ship respectively are due to arrive on Thursday.
Port Qasim
A cargo volume of 111,013 tonnes comprising 83,356 tonnes of import cargo and 27,657 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 2,566 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.
The total import cargo of 83,356 tonnes includes 42,505 tonnes of furnace oil; 6,516 tonnes of rape seeds; 4,106 tonnes of chemicals; 4,000 tonnes of palm oil and 26,229 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo includes 27,657 tonnes of containerised cargo.
There are five ships namely CV Sealand Michigan, CV Hanjin Malta, CV Nysted Maersk, MV Theosfy Laktos and MT Zhong Da You with containers, rape seed and edible oil sailed out to sea on Wednesday morning. A total number of seven vessels viz CV Sealand Michigan, CV Hanjin Malta, CV Nysted Maersk, MV Theosfy Laktos, MT Zhong Da You, Norgas Pitaluma and MT Karachi are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, palm oil, rape seed, chemicals and furnace oil respectively during the last 24 hours.
As many as five ships namely CMA CGM Mozart, Beacon Sin, Al-Soor-II, MT Quetta and Tamil Nadu with containers, wheat, diesel oil, fertiliser and furnace oil are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. There are four vessels viz CV Sealand Michigan, CV Hanjin Malta, MT Karachi and Norgas Pitaluma with containers, furnace oil and chemicals expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, FOTCO Oil Terminal and Engro Vopak Terminal respectively on Tuesday. There are two ships namely CV CMA CGM Mozart and Tamil Nadu with containers and urea due to arrive on Wednesday.
