Activity At Karachi and Qasim Ports

29/08/2013 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 51,707 tonnes of cargo comprising 39,257 tonnes of import cargo and 12,450 tonnes of export cargo including 1,414 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargo of 39,257 tonnes comprised 9,951 tonnes of containerised cargo; 12 tonnes of general cargo; 25,225 tonnes of bulk cargo: 18,300 tonnes of coal; 5,097 tonnes of sulphur; 1,828 tonnes of wheat and 4,069 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 12,450 tonnes comprised 9,951 tonnes of containerised cargo; 150 tonnes of general cargo and 1,020 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 1,414 containers comprising 770 containers import and 644 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday. The brakeup of imported containers shows 237 of 20's and 263 of 40's loaded while 3 of 20's and 2 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 276 of 20's and 184 of 40's loaded containers while nil of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There is one ship namely Nava Atropos with one oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There are six vessels viz Kota Kaya, ACX Diamond, OOCL Jakarta, Hallen, Ikan Parang and JA Run with three container ships, one oil tanker, one bulk cargo ship and one general cargo ship respectively are currently at the berths.

There are three ships namely Kota Kaya, ACX Diamond and TDT-2 with two container ships and one oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea on Wednesday, while three ships namely Hellen, Olympias and Tesoro with one oil tanker, one coal carrier and one sulphur carrier are expected to sail on Thursday.

There are five vessels viz santa Rosa, Ever Pearl, MSC Levina, Ponente and Laurel Galaxy with four container ships and one chemical carrier respectively due to arrive on Wednesday, while five vessels viz Kota Arif, Northern Prelude, Al-Soor-II, Oriental Lotus and Kong Que Zuo with two container ships, one HSD oil tanker, one ethanol tanker and one mogas carrier respectively due to arrive on Thursday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 155,620 tonnes comprising 106,130 tonnes of import cargo and 49,490 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 3,898 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargo of 106,130 tonnes includes 2,697 tonnes of wheat; 36,705 tonnes of furnace oil; 12,384 tonnes of rape seeds; 7,499 tonnes of palm oil; 9,510 tonnes of chemicals and 37,335 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 49,490 tonnes includes 12,763 tonnes of cement and 36,727 tonnes of containerised cargo.

A total number of 3,898 containers comprising 1,965 containers import and 1,933 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday. There are four ships namely CV Nysted Maersk, CV Sabya, MV Liquid Success and MT Karachi with containers, chemicals and furnace oil sailed out to sea on Wednesday morning, while two more ships namely CV Maersk Kolkata and MT Batissa with containers and edible oil are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of ten vessels viz CV Maersk Kolkata, CV Nysted Maersk, CV Sabya, MV Ikan Salmon, MV Aoyana, MV Inlako Brave, MV Pangia Stenion, MT Batissa, MV Liquid Success and MT Karachi are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, cement, wheat, rape seeds, chemical, palm oil and furnace oil respectively during the last 24 hours.

As many as seven ships namely Maersk Kolkata, Sabya, Beacon Sin, Atlantic Glory, Liquid Success, Chembulk Barcelona and Batissa with containers, wheat, chemicals and edible oil are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. There were four vessels viz CV CMA CGM Wagner, MT Quetta, MT Ginga Ocelot and MV Atlantic Glory with containers, furnace oil, palm oil and chemicals expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, FOTCO Oil Terminal, Liquid Cargo Terminal and Engro Vopak Terminal respectively on Wednesday.

There are three ships namely MT Iron Lady, MV Daebo Pohang and MV Ellens Brog with furnace oil, steel pipes and project cargo due to arrive on Wednesday, while three more ships namely CV CMA CGM Eiffel, CV Kerstin-S and MV Jia Run with containers and steel coil are due to arrive on Thursday. As many as three ships namely CV MSC Levina, CV MSC Kerry and MV Resolve carrying containers and project cargo are also due to arrive at Port Qasim.
