TDM Plans To Set Up Four Oil Palm Processing Factors In Indonesia
08/08/2013 (Bernama) - TDM Bhd plans to set up four oil palm processing factories in Kalimantan, Indonesia soon, said chairman, Datuk Roslan Awang Chik.
Roslan said the company decided to build the factories because it has been successful since its involvement in the 11,035-hectare venture in Indonesia three years ago.
He said the company will initially build a RM80 million factory in the plantation to process the oil palm.
"We have already called for tender to build a factory in Nanga Pinoh, Kalimantan, which which can process 60 tons of palm oil an hour.
"For every 10,000ha, we plan to build a factory to process the oil palm and within three years, we expect to have a second factory once the 20,000ha palm oil start to bear fruit," he told Bernama.
Roslan said if there were no problems, the construction of the factory by a company from Malaysia will commence next month and expected to be ready in 16 months.
He said the initial production was not satisfactory, amounting to between 50 and 80 tons a month.
In the long run, the company expected a production of 25 tons per ha, he said.
Roslan said in the first phase, the company bought about 20,000ha and has started planting in stages.
"By the end of the year, the company is expected to complete the planting of 15,000ha," he said.
Overall, he said, the company planned to owned about 40,000ha by 2018, involving an investment of RM1 billion.
Meanwhile, TDM also planned to increase the planting of oil palm because of the good weather and fertile land, he said.
TDM's venture in Kalimantan has received praises from Terengganu Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Ahmad Said, when he visited the estate on June 29, he said.
He said the company has also received requests to open more plantations in other areas of Indonesia.
However, he said, TDM will only focus on the project in Nanga Pinoh now.
"We want to ensure the project is successful before we venture into other areas," he said.
