Activity at Karachi and Qasim Ports

20/07/2013 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 96,594 tonnes of cargo comprising 83,415 tonnes of import cargo and 13,179 tonnes of export cargo including 1,646 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 83,415 tonnes comprised 10,651 tonnes of containerised cargo; 4,543 tonnes of general cargo; 35,873 tonnes of bulk cargo: 31,950 tonnes of coal; 3,923 tonnes of scrap and 32,348 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 13,179 tonnes comprised 8,133 tonnes of containerised cargo; 110 tonnes of general cargo; 636 tonnes of cement and 4,300 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 1,646 containers comprising 1,057 containers import and 589 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.

The brakeup of imported containers shows 244 of 20's and 247 of 40's loaded while 75 of 20's and 122 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 179 of 20's and 162 of 40's loaded containers while 66 of 20's and 10 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There are four ships namely Kota Karim, Cape, Al-Jalaa and Helios Triumph with two container ships, one oil tanker and one general cargo ship respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There are five vessels viz Hammonia Galciam, Violetta, Taipei, Oriental Protea and Helios Triumph with three container ships, one oil tanker and one general cargo ship respectively are currently at the berths.

There are four ships namely Violetta, Taipei, Jacksonville and Nordic Tianjin with three container ships and one coal carrier respectively sailed out to sea on Friday, while two ships namely Hammonia Galciam and Du Juan Song with one container ship and one general cargo ship respectively expected to sail on Saturday. There are two vessels viz Butinah and BBC Delaware with one rock phosphate carrier and one general cargo ship respectively due to arrive on Friday, while four vessels viz APL Brisbane, OOCL Britain, DL Ace and Alyarmouk with two container ships, one ethanol tanker and one crude oil tanker respectively due to arrive on Saturday.

Port Qasim
A cargo volume of 76,645 tonnes comprising 60,916 tonnes of import cargo and 15,729 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 1,227 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Friday.

The total import cargo of 60,916 tonnes includes 48,000 tonnes of diesel oil; 2,878 tonnes of edible oil and 10,038 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo includes 15,729 tonnes of containerised cargo. There are two ships namely CV Hammonia Pacificum and MT Al-Soor-II with containers and diesel oil sailed out to sea on Friday morning, while another ship namely MT Argent Cosmos with edible oil is expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of four vessels viz CV Hammonia Pacificum, MT Al-Soor-II, MV Out Rivaling-2 and MT Argent Cosmos are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, diesel oil, iron ore and edible oil respectively during the last 24 hours. As many as five ships namely MT Quetta, Gulf Asis, Chemroad Mega, Semua Perkasa and Flora with furnace oil, edible oil and cement currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.

There are two vessels viz CV Hammonia Pacificum and MT Al-Soor-II with containers and diedel oil expected to take berths at Qasim International Container Terminal and FOTCO Oil Terminal respectively on Thursday. There are two ships namely MT Quetta and MT Chemroad Mega with furnace oil and edible oil respectively due to arrive on Friday.
