Malaysian Companies Have Generated Over RM680mil Worth of Business in East Africa

01/07/2013 (The Star) - Malaysian companies have generated over RM680mil worth of business in East Africa following the Global Smart Partnership Dialogue (GSPD) 2013.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the potential business areas were in energy generation, design and build of renewable energy plant, halal cleansing services for logistics, agriculture, oil and gas and palm oil based products.

He said UEM was in negotiation with Tanzanian counterparts to build a tolled highway to linking the city to other African nations in the region.

Najib said Khazanah Nasional Berhad has been invited to establish a specialist hospital here so that it could provide health service to Tanzanians and nearby nations.

He said this was the result of the Malaysian Technology, Products and Service Showcase organised by Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation and Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation in conjunction with the dialogue.

He was speaking to Malaysian journalists on the final day of the dialogue themed Leveraging technology for smart growth in socio-economic transformation at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre here Sunday.

Najib said Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellai has invited Petronas to do oil exploration and wants to have closer ties with the Government and the private sector.

He said Uganda president Yomweri Museveni has requested Malaysian companies to work with them to establish a coffee processing factory so that they need not just export the raw material but produce coffee.
