Activity At Karachi And Qasim Ports
17/06/2013 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 140,903 tonnes of cargo comprising 93,089 tonnes of import cargo and 47,814 tonnes of export cargo including 6,344 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Saturday. The total import cargo of 93,089 tonnes comprised 33,251 tonnes of containerised cargo; 4,257 tonnes of general cargo; 4,506 tonnes of bulk cargo and 51,075 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 47,814 tonnes comprised 40,119 tonnes of containerised cargo; 155 tonnes of general cargo and 7,540 tonnes of bulk cargo. As many as 6,344 containers comprising 2,660 containers import and 3,684 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Saturday.
The brakeup of imported containers shows 773 of 20's and 832 of 40's loaded while 75 of 20's and 74 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 1,144 of 20's and 585 of 40's loaded containers while 110 of 20's and 630 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There are five ships with three container ships, one oil tanker and one general cargo ship respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There are three vessels with one container ship, one cement carrier and one general cargo ship respectively are currently at the berths. There are three ships with two container ships and one oil tanker sailed out to sea on Saturday. There are two vessels with one container ship and one ethanol tanker respectively due to arrive on Saturday.
Port Qasim
A cargo volume of 80,190 tonnes comprising 69,380 tonnes of import cargo and 10,810 tonnes of export cargo inclusive nil loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Friday.
The total import cargo of 69,380 tonnes includes 46,477 tonnes of furnace oil; 11,941 tonnes of palm oil; 1,500 tonnes of MEG; 2,402 tonnes of wheat and 7,060 tonnes of chemicals. The total export cargo includes 10,810 tonnes of cement. There is one ship namely MT Furu Holmen with furnace oil sailed out to sea on Saturday morning.
A total number of ten vessels viz MT Meramis, MV Sam Tiger, MV Dong Hai Jun, MV Titan, MT Furu Holmen, MT Quetta, MT Atlantic Glory, MV Bhairavi MV Dynamic Ocean and MV KPS-I Alican Bey are currently occupying berths to load/offload cement, palm oil, furnace oil, wheat, MEG and chemicals respectively during the last 24 hours.
There is one ship namely Genuine Galaxy with palm oil is currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. There is one vessel viz MT Genuine Galaxy with palm oil is expected to take berth at Liquid Cargo Terminal on Saturday. There is no ship due to arrive on Saturday as per arrival schedule.
