Activity at Karachi and Qasim Ports

01/06/2013 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 105,446 tonnes of cargo comprising 67,902 tonnes of import cargo and 37,544 tonnes of export cargo including 4,483 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 67,902 tonnes comprised 38,965 tonnes of containerised cargo; 7,006 tonnes of general cargo; 11,659 tonnes of bulk cargo: 4,273 tonnes of DAP; 7,386 tonnes of rock phosphate and 10,272 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 37,544 tonnes comprised 22,335 tonnes of containerised cargo; 1,194 tonnes of general cargo; 885 tonnes of cement and 13,130 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 4,483 containers comprising 2,950 containers import and 1,533 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday. The brakeup of imported containers shows 986 of 20's and 838 of 40's loaded while 42 of 20's and 123 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 551 of 20's and 389 of 40's loaded containers while 74 of 20's and 65 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There are six ships namely Kota Gembira, Wan Hai-503, Brightoil Legend, SC Gloji, Lodestar Genesis and Le Li with two container ships, two oil tankers, one chemical carrier and one general cargo ship sailed out to sea during the reported period. There are eight vessels viz Santa Rosa, APL Brisbane, Posen, Dawn, Formosa Falcon, Chemroad Vega, Zhong Guo Shui Dian and Mimasaka with three container ships, three oil tankers one dredger ship and one general cargo ship respectively are currently at the berths.

There are three ships namely Posen, Vicente and Xiang Rui Kou with one container ship, one steel ship and one general cargo ship respectively sailed out to sea on Thursday, while another ship namely Mimasaka with one general cargo ship is expected to sail on Friday. There are three vessels viz UASC Shuwaikh, Rio Blanco and Nord Guardian with two container ships and one naphtha tanker respectively due to arrive on Thursday, while four vessels viz APL Chicago, TS Qingdao, Cape Marin and CSC Zhong Hai with three container ships and one general cargo ship respectively due to arrive on Friday.

Port Qasim
A cargo volume of 106,326 tonnes comprising 76,969 tonnes of import cargo and 29,357 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 2,023 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargo of 76,969 tonnes includes 35,742 tonnes of furnace oil; 6,330 tonnes of palm oil; 2,776 tonnes of coal; 8,155 tonnes of fertiliser; 5,004 tonnes of chemical and 18,962 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 29,357 tonnes includes 9,259 tonnes of cement; 613 tonnes of sand; 10 tonnes of onion and 19,475 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 2,023 containers comprising 998 containers import and 1,025 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday.

There are four ships namely MT Sea Charming, MT Mid Nature, MV Bulk Pangaea and MT Lahore with sand, steel coil, palm oil, fertiliser and furnace oil sailed out to sea on Thursday morning, while another ship namely CV CMA CGM Mozart with containers is expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of eight vessels viz CV CMA CGM Mozart, MV Asian Express, MV Port Menier, MT Sea Charming, MV Spring Sunshine, MV Bulk Pangaea, MT Mid Nature and MT Lahore are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, cement, sand, steel coil, palm oil, fertiliser and furnace oil respectively during the last 24 hours.

As many as seven ships namely Wan Hai-602, Dubai Express, Bux Contact, Norgas Challenger, Maple, Kalmas and Vina Ship Sea with containers, chemical, palm oil, furnace oil and fertiliser are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. There are six vessels viz CV Dubai Express, CV Bux Contact, MT Norgas Challenger, MT Maple, MT Kalmas and MV Vina Ship Sea with containers, chemical, palm oil, furnace oil and fertiliser expected to take berth at Qasim International Container Terminal, FOTCO Oil Terminal, Liquid Cargo Terminal, Grain & Fertiliser Terminal (FAP) and Engro Vopak Terminal respectively on Thursday.

There are two ships namely CV MSC Levina and MV Maha-B with containers and project cargo due to arrive on Friday. There are five vessels viz CV Maersk Columbus, MT Al-Soor-II, MV Norgas Innovation, MV Stolt Viking and MV Star Globe with containers, diesel oil, chemicals, cement and phosphoric acid respectively are also due to arrive as per arrival schedule.
