Activity at Karachi and Qasim Ports

23/05/2013 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 154,930 tonnes of cargo comprising 106,854 tonnes of import cargo and 48,076 tonnes of export cargo including 8,943 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Tuesday. The total import cargo of 106,854 tonnes comprised 44,829 tonnes of containerised cargo; 9,275 tonnes of general cargo; 18,021 tonnes of bulk cargo: 17,971 tonnes of coal; 50 tonnes of sulphur and 34,729 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 48,076 tonnes comprised 43,359 tonnes of containerised cargo; 715 tonnes of general cargo; 1,002 tonnes of bulk cargo: and 349 tonnes of cement; 653 tonnes of rice and 3,000 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 8,943 containers comprising 4,055 containers import and 4,888 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday.

The brakeup of imported containers shows 1,337 of 20's and 1,316 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 43 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 1,056 of 20's and 914 of 40's loaded containers while 480 of 20's and 762 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There are seven ships namely MOL Dignity, Santa Rosa, Scirocco, Calida, Dong A Peneus, Sea Wave and Opal Ace with two container ships, three oil tankers, one cement carrier and one vehicle carrier respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There are five vessels viz Wan Hai-601, TS Singapore, Octaden, Ozay-6 and Opal Ace with two container ships, two oil tankers and one vehicle carrier respectively are currently at the berths. There are five ships namely Wan Hai-601, TS Singapore, YM South, Hyundai Freedom and Fu Rong Song with four container ships and one general cargo ship respectively sailed out to sea on Tuesday, while three ships namely Chang Hang Huai Hai, Niara and Octaden with two container ships and one ethanol tanker respectively are expected to sail on Wednesday.

There is one vessel viz Kota Karim with container ship due to arrive on Tuesday, while eight vessels viz APL Brisbane, Captain Costas, Pona, Bunga Lucerne, Tamar, United Grafe Bunga Kantan and UBC Canada with three container ships, one chemical carrier, one mogas ship, two oil tankers and one cement carrier respectively due to arrive on Wednesday.

Port Qasim
A cargo volume of 84,688 tonnes comprising 63,636 tonnes of import cargo and 21,052 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 2,341 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Tuesday.

The total import cargo of 63,636 tonnes includes 30,681 tonnes of diesel oil; 9,033 tonnes of furnace oil; 495 tonnes of palm oil and 23,427 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo includes 21,052 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 2,341 containers comprising 1,233 containers import and 1,108 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday. There is one ship namely MT Heng Xin with edible oil sailed out to sea on Tuesday morning, while another ship namely CV Nysted Maersk with containers is expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of three vessels viz CV Nysted Maersk, MT Heng Xin and MT Al-Soor-II are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, edible oil and diesel oil respectively during the last 24 hours. As many as three ships namely Maersk Kalkata, MT Karachi and MT Lahore with containers and furnace oil are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.

There are two vessels viz CV Maersk Kalkata and CV Najran with containers are expected to take berths at Qasim International Container Terminal on Tuesday. There is one ship namely CV CMA CGM Bellini with containers is due to arrive on Wednesday. There are five vessels viz CV Hammonia Pacificum, CV Caribbean Sea, CV NYK Kai, CV President Adam and MT Maersk Memphis with containers and furnace oil are also due to arrive as per arrival schedule.
