Karachi Ports Handle 186,904 Tons of Cargo

18/05/2013 (The News International) - The Karachi Port and Port Qasim handled a cargo volume of 186,904 tons during the last 24 hours that included 137,611 tons of imports and 49,293 tons of exports, the two ports reported on Thursday. Accordingly, the Karachi Port handled imports, including containerised cargo (16,834 tons), bulk cargo (7,120 tons), coal (17,500 tons), and oil / liquid cargo (69,100 tons). It handled exports, including cement (1,399 tons), rice (655 tons), containerised cargo (20,830 tons), and bulk cargo (582 tons). Similarly, Port Qasim handled imports, including palm oil (8,298 tons), chemicals (2,818 tons), and containerised cargo (15,941 tons). It handled exports, including rice (2,317 tons), and containerised cargo (17,290 tons). Berth occupancy was measured at 28 percent at the port on Wednesday,” the Port Qasim Authority reported.

The port moored two ships during the last 24 hours. They were carrying containers and palm oil, the authority said.

With this, a total of four ships were loading and unloading cargo at the port that included containers, rice, chemicals and palm oil, it said.

Three container ships, Michaelas, Alliance Faifax and Mare Atlanticum, are expected to take berths at the Container Terminal on Thursday, while two more ships, Container Vessel Sargasso Sea and Oil tanker Akaki, were due to arrive on Friday, it said.
