C65bn released for PSI on Oil Palm
Jacobu (Ash), Oct 29, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor on Thursdayannounced that the Government had released 65 billion cedis to boost thePresident's Special Initiative (PSI) on Oil Palm production. He said theamount was to be used for land preparation for transplanting of oil palmseedlings nursed for the programme.
President Kufuor was addressing a durbar of the chiefs and people ofJacobu, capital town of the newly created Amansie Central District of theAshanti Region on the second day of his six-day official tour of theregion.
He said the Government had also allocated seven billion cedis forinfrastructure development in the district and that the roads in Jacobuwould be repaired together with the main one linking the town to Kumasiand Obuasi.
President Kufuor said the district would also be provided with a hospitaland one senior secondary school in the area would be upgraded to promotehealth and education.
Nana Fosu Abiri II, chief of Jacobu, appealed to the government to repairroads, provide potable water and ensure effective health care delivery tofacilitate the development of the area.
He also appealed to the authorities to assist farmers involved in the PSIon oil palm to enhance agriculture in the area.Source: GNA
