Activity At Karachi and Qasim Ports

19/04/2013 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 88,234 tonnes of cargo comprising 57,580 tonnes of import cargo and 30,654 tonnes of export cargo including 3,313 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 57,580 tonnes comprised 20,477 tonnes of containerised cargo; 5,003 tonnes of general cargo; 16,500 tonnes of coal and 15,600 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 30,654 tonnes comprised 18,189 tonnes of containerised cargo; 962 tonnes of general cargo and 11,503 tonnes of bulk cargo: 1,161 tonnes of cement and 6,560 tonnes of loose bulk cement; 2,774 tonnes of rice and 1,008 tonnes of sugar. As many as 3,313 containers comprising 1,656 containers import and 1,657 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The brakeup of imported containers show 402 of 20's and 579 of 40's loaded while 26 of 20's and 35 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers show 513 of 20's and 232 of 40's loaded containers while 32 of 20's and 324 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There are two ships namely Kota Ganteng and Polaris Leader with one container ship and one vehicle carrier respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There are six vessels viz Callao Bridge, Wave, APL Brisbane, Bulk Arrow, Sofia and Han He with three container ships, two bulk cargo ships and one general cargo ship respectively are currently at the berths.

There are four ships namely Callao Bridge, Brighoil Legend, King Bright and GMT Phoenix with one container ship, one oil tanker, one general cargo ship and one rice carrier respectively sailed out to sea on Thursday, while another ship namely Bulk Arrow with one cement carrier is expected to sail on Friday.

There are two vessels viz APL Guangzhou and Sea Maple with one molasses ship and one container ship respectively due to arrive on Thursday, while eight vessels viz Lodestar Genesis, Freja Hafnia, Cape Verde, Santa Rosa, YM West, Scirocco, Fen and MT Quetta with five container ships, one cement carrier and two steel carrier respectively are due to arrive on Friday.

Port Qasim
A cargo volume of 57,369 tonnes comprising 33,883 tonnes of import cargo and 23,446 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 2,036 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargo of 33,883 tonnes includes 317 tonnes of diesel oil; 8,564 tonnes of MEG; 4,432 tonnes of palm oil; 5,333 tonnes of phosphoric acid and 15,238 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 23,486 tonnes includes 40 tonnes of wheat and 23,446 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 2,036 containers comprising 802 containers import and 1,234 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

There are two ship namely MT Argent Eye Bright and MV Chemroad Journey with edible oil and chemical sailed out to sea on Thursday morning, while another ship namely CV CMA CGM Rossini with containers is expected to sail on the same day afternoon. A total number of five vessels viz CV CMA CGM Rossini, MV Mercy Wisdom, MT Atlantic Glory, MT Chemroad Journey and MT Argent Eye Bright are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, wheat, MEG phosphoric acid, diesel oil and palm oil respectively during the last 24 hours.

As many as two ships namely High Ruby Park and Chembulk Singapore with phosphoric acid and chemical are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. There are two vessels viz CV CMA CGM Amber and CV Michaelas with containers are expected to take berths at Qasim International Container Terminal on Thursday. One ship namely MT Al-Kuwaitiah with diesel oil due to arrive on Thursday, while two more ships namely CV MSC Levina and MT Karachi with containers and furnace oil are due to arrive on Friday.
