Activities At Karachi and Qasim Ports

28/11/2012 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 80,318 tonnes of cargo comprising 58,724 tonnes of import cargo and 21,594 tonnes of export cargo including 3,788 loaded & empty containers during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Tuesday. The total import cargo of 58,724 tonnes comprised 37,503 tonnes of containerised cargo; 63 tonnes of general cargo; 14,000 tonnes of coal and 7,158 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 21,594 tonnes comprised 18,953 tonnes of containerised cargo; 85 tonnes of general cargo; 816 tonnes of cement and 1,740 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 3,788 containers comprising 2,566 containers import and 1,222 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday.

The brakeup of imported containers shows 1,104 of 20's and 718 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 13 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 546 of 20's and 209 of 40's loaded containers while 30 of 20's and 114 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There are three ships namely MOL Direction, Nyack Princess and BBC Florida with one container ship, one urea carrier and one general cargo ship respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There are seven vessels viz Hyundai Colombo, TS Qingdao, Hanjin Monaco, CSC Risingsun, Sidra Doha, Safina-2 and Hopeful with three container ships, two oil tankers, one sugar carrier and one general cargo ship respectively are currently at the berths.

There are four ships namely TS Qingdao, Hanjin Monaco, Ginga Kite and Sidra Doha with two container ships and two oil tankers respectively sailed out to sea on Tuesday. There are two vessels viz Ever Result and Sea Coral with one container ship and one general cargo ship respectively due to arrive on Tuesday, while four vessels viz APL Brisbane, Royal Peridot, MT Karachi and MT Quetta with one container ship, one chemical carrier and two crude oil tankers respectively are due to arrive on Wednesday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 91,483 tonnes comprising 60,843 tonnes of import cargo and 30,640 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 2,711 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Tuesday.

The total import cargo of 60,843 tonnes includes 33,078 tonnes of diesel oil; 5,440 tonnes of palm oil and 22,325 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 30,640 tonnes includes 1,456 tonnes of rice and 29,184 tonnes of containerised cargo. A total number of 2,711 containers comprising 1,175 containers import and 1,536 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday. There are two ships namely CV Maersk Carolina and CV MSC Reunion with containers sailed out to sea on Tuesday morning, while another ship namely MT Angel-12 with palm oil is expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of six vessels viz CV Maersk Carolina, CV MSC Reunion, MV Thor Independence, MV Genius Star-II, MT Angel-12 and MT Al-Soor-II are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, cement, rice, palm oil and diesel oil respectively during the last 24 hours.

As many as three ships namely Maersk Kalamata, Nedlloyd Barentsz and Chemroad Rose with containers and phosphoric acid respectively are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. There are five vessels viz CV Maersk Kalamata, CV Nedlloyd Barentsz, CV Hanjin Elizabeth, MV Chemroad Rose and MT Amagi Galaxy with containers, phosphoric acid and palm oil are expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Engro Vopak Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Tuesday. A container ship namely CV CMA CGM Puccini is due to arrive on Wednesday.
