219 Palm Oil Mills Compounded For Pollution
23/10/2012 (Bernama) - A total of 219 palm oil mills in Sabah were issued with compounds for violating the Environmental Quality Act 1974 up to this month, involving a total of RM158,050 in fines.
State Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Masidi Manjun said 13 of the mills were compounded a total of RM26,000.
"The enforcement programme was carried out according to priority where factories with problems were visited at least four times a year," he said when replying to a question from Datuk Liew Teck Chan (SAPP-Likas) at the State Assembly sitting, here today.
Masidi said the authorities also constantly monitored the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) reports to ensure the regulations were adhered to.
