11/09/2012 (Bernama) - There is a great need and potential for the palm oil industy to adopt green technology and environmental-friendly practices, says the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC).

Its chairman Datuk Lee Yeow Chor said this was to reduce the overall carbon footprint of the industry.

"Over the years, the Malaysian palm oil industry, a leader in the global oils and fats sector, is taking the important step of positive engagement with stakeholders towards creating new and meaningful opportunities in this common area of interest," he said when opening the Third International Palm Oil Sustainability Conference (IPOSC) 2012, here, today.

IPOSC serves to highlight that the Malaysian palm oil industry has always operated on the principle of good agricultural practices that are sustainable.

It is also to show that Malaysian palm oil is truly a sustainable commodity that maintains a balance between the economy, environment and social responsibility.
