Activity At Karachi And Qasim Ports

28/08/2012 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 64,160 tonnes of cargo comprising 43,077 tonnes of import cargo and 21,083 tonnes of export cargo including 3,253 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Monday. The total import cargo of 43,077 tonnes comprised of 30,763 tonnes of containerised cargo; 4,324 tonnes of general cargo; 1,201 tonnes of DAP and 6,789 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 21,083 tonnes comprised of 11,504 tonnes of containerised cargo; 9,579 tonnes of bulk cargo: 357 tonnes of cement and 9.222 tonnes of loose bulk cement. A total number of 3,253 containers comprising 2,076 containers import and 1,177 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Monday. The brake up of imported containers shows 928 of 20's and 574 of 40's of loaded while nil of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 328 of 20's and 164 of 40's loaded containers while and 53 of 20's 234 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

Five ships namely India Express, OOCL Busan, King Hero, Sam Dragon and Tabernacle Prince carrying two container ships, two general cargo ships and one bulk cargo ship respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. Four vessels viz Lindavia, Hyundai General, Lodestar Genesis and G Emerald with two container ships, one oil tanker and one bulk cargo ship respectively are currently at the berths.

Two ships namely Lindavia and Hyundai General carrying two container ships respectively sailed out to sea on Monday, while another ship namely Lodestar Genesis with one oil tanker is expected to sail on Tuesday. Six vessels viz Vinalines Brave, Diana Bolten, Sapphire-T, Cypress Galaxy, Hanjin Durban and Marlin carrying two coal carriers, one chemicals carrier, one palm oil tanker, one container ship and one project cargo ship respectively due to arrive on Monday, while four vessels viz Marcampania, Shayan-1, Aklraios and Madrid Trader with two container ships, one molasses tanker and one general cargo ship respectively are due to arrive on Tuesday.

Port Qasim
A cargo volume of 80,523 tonnes comprising 56,872 tonnes of import cargo and 23,651 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 2,870 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during last 24 hours on Monday.

The total import cargo of 56,872 tonnes includes 10,000 tonnes of furnace oil and 46,872 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 23,651 tonnes includes 4,712 tonnes of cement; 3,120 tonnes of corn; 2,421 tonnes of rice and 13,398 tonnes of containerised cargo. A container ship namely CV Maersk Georgia sailed out to sea on Monday morning.

A total number of seven vessels viz CV Maersk Georgia, CV MSC Jemima, MV Heckor, AMS Pegasus, Outrivaling-2, SFL Kent and MT Karachi are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, cement, rice, corn and furnace oil respectively during last 24 hours.

As many as six ships namely Sealand Washington, Baltic, Olympic Serenity, Unicorn Emerald, Fuji Galaxy and Sapphire-2 with containers, furnace oil, wheat, edible oil and cement respectively are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. A total number of three vessels viz Sealand Washington, Fuji Galaxy and Sapphire-2 with containers, edible oil and cement respectively are expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Liquid Cargo Terminal and Multi Purpose Terminal (MW-2) respectively on Monday.
