Activity At Karachi And Qasim Ports

30/07/2012 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 146,130 tonnes of cargo comprising 109,813 tonnes of import cargo and 36,317 tonnes of export cargo including 4,154 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Saturday. The total import cargo of 109,813 tonnes comprised of 36,520 tonnes of containerised cargo; 1,959 tonnes of general cargo; 26,530 tonnes of bulk cargo and 44,804 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 36,317 tonnes comprised of 18,239 tonnes of containerised cargo; 3,420 tonnes of general cargo; 658 tonnes of bulk cargo and 14,000 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. A total number of 4,154 containers comprising 2,343 containers import and 1,811 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Saturday.

The brake up of imported containers shows 873 of 20's and 691 of 40's of loaded while 60 of 20's and 14 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 576 of 20's and 270 of 40's loaded containers while and 57 of 20's 319 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. Six ships with four container ships and two oil tankers respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. Four vessels carrying four container ships respectively are currently at the berths.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 73,761 tonnes, comprising 51,784 tonnes of import cargo and 21,977 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 2,826 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during last 24 hours on Saturday. The total import cargo of 51,784 tonnes includes 13,687 tonnes of diesel oil; 20,299 tonnes of palm oil; 6,969 tonnes of chemicals and 4,619 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo includes 21,977 tonnes of containerised cargo. Two ships namely MT Al-Soor-II and MT Chemroad Quest carrying diesel oil and edible oil respectively sailed out to sea on during last 24 hours, while three more ships namely CV Marie Delmas, CV CMA CGM Eiffel and MV Liberty Glory with containers and chemicals are expected to sail on Saturday morning.

A total number of eight vessels viz CV Marie Delmas, CV CMA CGM Eiffel, MT Atlanta, MT Chemroad Quest, MT Al-Soor-II, MV Liberty Glory, MT STX Forte and MT Chang Ani-7 are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, diesel oil, chemicals and rice respectively during last 24 hours. As many as five ships MT Galaxy, Theresa Bitung, Conti Sphir, New Horizon and Fisher-D with palm oil, canola seeds, furnace oil and cement are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.

A total number of four vessels viz MV Conti Sphir, MT Galaxy, MT New Horizon and MV Fisher-D carrying canola seeds, palm oil, furnace oil and cement are expected to take berths at Grains & Fertiliser (FAP), Multi Purpose Terminal (MW), Liquid Cargo Terminal and FOTCO Oil Terminal respectively on Saturday.
