Activity at Karachi And Qasim Ports
27/07/2012 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 80,614 tonnes of cargo comprising 35,631 tonnes of import cargo and 44,614 tonnes of export cargo including 3,694 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 35,631 tonnes comprised of 21,617 tonnes of containerised cargo; 83 tonnes of general cargo; 13,931 tonnes of bulk cargo: 2,760 tonnes of DAP; 5,000 tonnes of coal and 6,171 tonnes of rock phosphate.
The total export cargo of 44,614 tonnes comprised of 18,813 tonnes of containerised cargo; 268 tonnes of general cargo; 7,503 tonnes of bulk cargo: and 441 tonnes of cement; 7,062 tonnes of loose bulk cement and 18,000 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. A total number of 3,694 containers comprising 1,520 containers import and 2,174 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.
The brake up of imported containers shows 440 of 20's and 528 of 40's of loaded while nil of 20's and 12 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 499 of 20's and 269 of 40's loaded containers while and 397 of 20's 370 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
Two ships namely Hanjin Durban and Indian Express with two container ship sailed out to sea during the reported period. Five vessels viz Ital Moderna, APL Brisbane, TS Korea, Jia Tai and Ocean Prince carrying three container ships and two bulk cargo ships respectively are currently at the berths. Three ships namely Ital Moderna, Sea Merchant and Bow Flower with one container ship, one cement carrier and one molasses ship sailed out to sea on Thursday.
Two vessels viz Jolly and Rio Bravo with two container ships respectively due to arrive on Thursday, while six vessels viz YM North, APL Chicago, OEL Trust, Kota Akbar, Chemway Gala and Karsiyaka four container ships, one ethanol ship and one steel coil carrier respectively are due to arrive on Friday.
PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 115,311 tonnes, comprising 85,714 tonnes of import cargo and 29,597 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 3,674 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during last 24 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 85,714 tonnes includes 42,807 tonnes of furnace oil; 5,059 tonnes of phosphoric acid; 918 tonnes of VCM; 89 tonnes of project cargo and 36,841 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo includes 29,597 tonnes of containerised cargo.
A total number of 3,674 containers comprising 1,933 containers import and 1,741 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday. Three ships namely CV Nedlloyd Barentz, CV Al-Abdali and MT Euro Sea carrying containers and furnace oil respectively sailed out to sea on Thursday morning, while two more ships namely CV Ville de Aquarus and MV Stanlay Park with containers and chemicals are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.
A total number of five vessels viz CV Nedlloyd Barentz, CV Al-Abdali, CV Ville de Aquarus, MV Stanlay Park and MT Euro Sea are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, phosphoric acid and furnace oil respectively during last 24 hours. As many as six ships City of Beijing, Al-Soor-II, STX Forte, Conti Sphir, Chang Ani-I and Liberty Glory with containers, chemicals, diesel oil, palm oil, canola seeds, chemicals and wheat/rice are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.
A total number of nine vessels viz CV CMA CGM Chapan, CV City of Beijing, CV CMA CGM Eiffel, MV Liberty Glory, MT STX Forte, MT Atlanta, MT Chemroad Quest, MT Al-Soor-II and MT Chang Ani-I carrying containers, wheat, rice, cement, steel coil, palm oil, diesel oil and chemicals are expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Grains & Fertiliser Terminal (PAP), Multi Purpose Terminal, Liquid Cargo Terminal, FOTCO Oil Terminal and Engro Vopak Terminal respectively on Thursday. A container ship namely CV Marine Delmas due to arrive on Thursday, while two more container ships namely CV MSC Jade and CV Asia Trader are due to arrive on Friday.
