Activity At Karachi And Qasim Ports

06/07/2012 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 117,068 tonnes of cargo comprising 79,239 tonnes of import cargo and 37,829 tonnes of export cargo including 3,793 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 79,239 tonnes comprised of 24,376 tonnes of containerised cargo; 863 tonnes of general cargo; 11,300 tonnes of coal and 42,700 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 37,829 tonnes comprised of 25,163 tonnes of containerised cargo; 50 tonnes of general cargo; 4,916 tonnes of bulk cargo: and 1,204 tonnes of cement; 3,713 tonnes of loose bulk cement and 7,700 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. A total number of 3,793 containers comprising 1,932 containers import and 1,861 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The brake up of imported containers shows 582 of 20's and 525 of 40's of loaded while 92 of 20's and 104 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 675 of 20's and 438 of 40's loaded containers while and nil of 20's 155 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

Two ships namely Southern Jaugar and Nexien with one chemicals carrier and one container ships respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. Five vessels viz Jolly, APL Brisbane, Afanourios, UBC Chille and MT Quetta with two container ships, two bulk cargo ships and one oil tanker respectively are currently at the berths. Three ships namely MT Quetta, Britto and APL Brisbane with two container ships and one oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea on Thursday, while five ships namely Jolly, Rio Blanco, Nadeem, UBC Chille and Heng Shun Da with two container ships, one cement carrier, one bulk cargo ship and one general cargo ship respectively are expected to sail on Friday.

Four vessels viz UASC Shuwaikh, CS Discovery, Rio Blanco and Kota Arif with four container ships respectively due to arrive on Thursday, while eight vessels viz APL Seatif, Buxtaurus, YM Taichung, Salis, Courier, Alpine Mia, Alia and Dueal Faith with five container ships, one mogas ship, one carbon black carrier and one coal carrier respectively are due to arrive on Friday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 99,960 tonnes, comprising 82,219 tonnes of import cargo and 17,741 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 2,503 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during last 24 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargo of 82,219 tonnes includes 35,328 tonnes of diesel furnace oil; 7,600 tonnes of palm oil; 6,000 tonnes of iron ore; 360 tonnes of project cargo; 460 tonnes of bitumen and 32,471 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 17,741 tonnes includes 2,656 tonnes of cement and 15,086 tonnes of containerised cargo.

A total number of 2,503 containers comprising 1,709 containers import and 794 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday. An oil tanker namely MT Al-Salam-II sailed out to sea on Thursday morning, while three more ships namely CV MSC Namibia-II, CV CMA CGM Verdi and MV Union Emma with containers and bitumen respectively are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of seven vessels viz CV MSC Namibia-II, CV CMA CGM Verdi, MV Salta, MV Cyrus-1, MV Union Emma, Golden Dynasty and MT Al-Salam-II are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, cement, bitumen, iron ore, palm oil and diesel oil respectively during last 24 hours. As many as three ships STX Rose-1, Chemroad Sea and Siva Mumbai with barge, palm oil and chemicals respectively are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.

A total number of three vessels viz CV Belgica, MV STX Rose-1 and MT Siva Mumbai with containers, barge and chemicals respectively are expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal and Engro Vopak Terminal respectively on Thursday. Two container ships namely CV CMA CGM Amber and CV Lantau Arrow due to arrive on Thursday, while two more container ships namely CV Safmarine Ngami and CV MSC Jade are due to arrive on Friday.
