13/06/2012 (Bernama) - Felcra Berhad aims to develop another 100,000-200,000 hectares of land for oil palm cultivation in Sarawak as part of its expansion plan, its chairman Datuk Tajuddin Abdul Rahman said Tuesday.

He said the areas had yet to be identified as Felcra is expected to conduct a feasibility study soon on suitable land, including those in the state's interior, which had the potential to be developed into plantations with economic value.

"Plantations are a big investment. It is a very challenging job but Felcra has over 40 years experience in the field," he told reporters after a courtesy call on Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud at his office here.

He said Felcra, which focused on helping rural people through socio-economic programmes and land development, was also looking at state land or individually owned idle land as potential land banks.

Felcra has to date developed 51,000 hectares of land, including those in the rural areas and involving 16,000 project participants throughout Sarawak, while generating dividends totalling RM154 million.
