Nagapattinam (Tamil Nadu), Feb 13 : Cargo handling at the port here, whichremained suspended since the tsunami strike in December, resumed todaywith the arrival of a Indonesian steamer carrying edible palm oil crude.

The steamer, "Theerthanaya II", is carrying 4,500 tonnes of the oilimported by local firm M/s A S Overseas Pvt Ltd.

The discharge of cargo would be made in about five days, according to thecargo handling contractor, M/s Infrastructure Private Ltd., here.

Oil is the only commoditiy being imported through the port while cementwas being exported. Normally, one or two ships call at the port.

Ever since the tsunami struck on December 26 last, the cargo operationshad been suspended. PTI
