Activity At Karachi And Qasim Ports
04/06/2012 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 91,116 tonnes of cargo comprising 63,057 tonnes of import cargo and 28,059 tonnes of export cargo including 6,270 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Saturday. The total import cargo of 63,057 tonnes comprised of 41,755 tonnes of containerised cargo; 21,000 tonnes of bulk cargo and 302 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 28,059 tonnes comprised of 24,852 tonnes of containerised cargo; 790 tonnes of general cargo; 1,517 tonnes of bulk cargo and 900 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. A total number of 6,270 containers comprising 3,336 containers import and 2,934 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Saturday.
The brake up of imported containers shows 962 of 20's and 1,187 of 40's of loaded while nil of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 706 of 20's and 273 of 40's loaded containers while and 358 of 20's 662 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. Three ships with two container ships and one oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. Four vessels with three container ships and one general cargo ship respectively are currently at the berths.
PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 102,539 tonnes, comprising 82,631 tonnes of import cargo and 19,908 tonnes of export cargo was handled at Port Qasim during last 24 hours on Saturday. The total import cargo of 82,631 tonnes includes 33,693 tonnes of furnace oil; 11,850 tonnes of palm oil; 7,176 tonnes of chemicals, 3,000 tonnes of soyabean oil, 3,002 tonnes of steel product and 23,932 tonnes of containerised cargo.
The total export cargo includes 19,908 tonnes of containerised cargo. Six ships namely MT Bow Pride, CV Safmarine Ngami, CV Asian Trader, CV Ville D Aquarius, MT Harsandi and MT Genie sailed out to sea during last 24 hours. A total number of ten vessels namely SC Shanghai, Turouoise-T, MT Bow Pride, Outrivaling-3, BBC Quebec, MT Harsandi, MT Genie, Safmarine Ngami, Asian Trader and Ville D Aquarius are currently occupying berths to load/offload palm oil, soyabeen oil, chemicals, MEG, furnace oil, project cargo, steel product and containers respectively during last 24 hours.
As many as six ships Mare Atlanticum, Al-Salam-II, Bow Fraternity, Al-Buhaira, Gas Elixer and Leopard-B with containers, diesel oil, palm oil, furnace oil, LPG and cement respectively are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. Four ships namely Leopard-B, Al-Salam-II, Bow Fraternity and CV MSC Sierra-II due to arrive on Saturday.
