Activity At Karachi And Qasim Ports
24/05/2012 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 87,226 tonnes of cargo comprising 41,247 tonnes of import cargo and 45,979 tonnes of export cargo including 2,037 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Wednesday.
The total import cargo of 41,247 tonnes comprised of 8,025 tonnes of containerised cargo; 160 tonnes of general cargo; 4,144 tonnes of bulk cargo: 2,320 tonnes of palm kernel; 1,824 tonnes of DAP and 28,918 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 45,979 tonnes comprised of 21,420 tonnes of containerised cargo; 30 tonnes of general cargo; 9,529 tonnes of bulk cargo: 2,233 tonnes of cement; 7,296 tonnes of loose bulk cement and 15,000 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
A total number of 2,037 containers include 438 import and 1,599 export containers were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.
The brake up of imported containers shows 357 of 20's and 38 of 40's of loaded while 5 of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 638 of 20's and 249 of 40's loaded containers while and 161 of 20's 151 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
Four ships namely Hyundai Highness, Lodestar Genesis, MT Quetta and Ocean Crown with one container ship, one chemicals carrier, one oil tanker and one cement carrier respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
Two vessels viz Zulal and Hongbo with one bulk cargo ship and one oil tanker respectively are currently at the berths.
A container ship namely STX Patraikos expected to sail on Wednesday.
Five vessels viz Stavanger Eagle, Chem Rigel, Forever SW, Ikaria Angel and Du Juan Song with one mogas ship, one ethanol ship, two coal carriers and one general cargo ship respectively due to arrive on Wednesday, while three vessels viz Parmis, APL Brisbane and Golden Dominance with two container ships and one chemicals carrier respectively are due to arrive on Thursday.
PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 103,961 tonnes, comprising 80,690 tonnes of import cargo and 23,271 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 2,241 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during last 24 hours on Wednesday.
The total import cargo of 80,690 tonnes includes 28,150 tonnes of furnace oil; 10,200 tonnes of edible oil; 17,350 tonnes of coal and 24,990 tonnes of containerised cargo.
The total export cargo of 23,271 tonnes includes 1,410 tonnes of wheat and 21,861 tonnes of containerised cargo.
Three ships namely CV Sea Land Washington, CV Hanjin San Diego and MT Athina-M with containers and furnace oil sailed out to sea on Wednesday morning.
A total number of six vessels namely CV Sea Land Washington, CV Hanjin San Diego, MV Luilang Wisdom, MV Ever Shining, MT Athina-M and MT Donga Calypso are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, wheat, coal, furnace oil and edible oil respectively during last 24 hours.
As many as three ships Jbu Oslo, Bon Fertility and Al-Soor-II with containers and furnace oil respectively are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.
A total number of two vessels viz Jbu Oslo and Al-Soor-II with containers and furnace oil respectively are expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal and FOTCO Oil Terminal respectively on Wednesday.
