Activity At Karachi And Qasim Ports

05/05/2012 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 76,241 tonnes of cargo comprising1 55,022 tonnes of import cargo and 21,219 tonnes of export cargo including 1,997 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Friday.

The total import cargo of 55,022 tonnes comprised of 9,267 tonnes of containerised cargo; 11,961 tonnes of general cargo; 18,220 tonnes of bulk cargo: 12,600 tonnes of coal; 5,620 tonnes of rock phosphate and 15,574 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 21,219 tonnes comprised of 14,435 tonnes of containerised cargo; 115 tonnes of general cargo; 2,969 tonnes of cement and 3,700 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

A total number of 1,997 containers include 677 import and 1,320 export containers were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.

The brake up of imported containers shows 181 of 20's and 248 of 40's of loaded while nil of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 363 of 20's and 391 of 40's loaded containers while and 71 of 20's 52 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

Three ships namely APL Brisbane, Hermes and Oriental Protea with two container ships and one oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

Five vessels viz Teesa, MT Quetta, Bunga Kantan Dua, Olympias and Al-Alya with one container ship, two oil tankers, one bulk cargo ship and one general cargo ship respectively are currently at the berths.

Two ships namely Emine and MT Quetta carrying one general cargo ship and one oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea on Friday, while another ship namely Kota Akbar with one container ship is expected to sail on Saturday.

Six vessels viz APL Sokhna, CSL Ride, GT Star, Heather, Captore and Mumbai Butterfly with two container ships, one ethanol ship, one naphtha ship, one DAP carrier and one general cargo ship respectively due to arrive on Friday, while four vessels viz Wan Hai-601, Asian Trader, Ocean Crown and LE Chang with two container ships, one cement carrier and one general cargo ship respectively are due to arrive on Saturday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 134,402 tonnes, comprising 107,634 tonnes of import cargo and 26,768 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 2,186 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during last 24 hours on Friday.

The total import cargo of 107,634 tonnes includes 65,224 tonnes of furnace oil; 8,320 tonnes of edible oil; 9,506 tonnes of coal; 3,570 tonnes of rice and 21,014 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 26,768 tonnes includes 40 tonnes of wheat; 6,208 tonnes of cement and 20,520 tonnes of containerised cargo.

Three ships namely CV OOCL San Francisco, CV Jakarta Tower and MV Mary Amm Hudson carrying containers and cement respectively sailed out to sea on Friday morning, while another ship namely MT Never Land with furnace oil is expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of seven vessels namely CV OOCL San Francisco, CV Jakarta Tower, MV Catamarca, MV Mary Amm Hudson, MT Bunga Lavender, MT Never Land and MV Endless with containers, cement, rice, palm oil, furnace oil and coal respectively during last 24 hours.

As many as five ships namely MSC Sierra-II, CMA CGM Amber, Asian Trader, Indian Fortune and STX Eastern with containers, wheat and palm oil respectively are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.

A total number of five vessels viz CV MSC Sierra-II, CV CMA CGM Amber, CV Asian Trader, MV Indian Fortune and MT STX Eastern with containers, wheat and palm oil respectively are expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Grain & Fertiliser Terminal and Liquid cargo Terminal respectively on Friday.

Two ships namely CV Maersk Kentucky and MV Acocia carrying containers and seeds are due to arrive on Sunday.

As many as three ships namely CV Safmarine Ngami, CV MSC Hinna and MV Millennium Park with containers and phosphoric acid are also due to arrive at Port Qasim.
