01/05/2012 (Bernama) - The RM70 million Chemical Company of Malaysia Bhd's (CCM) fertilizer plant opened today will cater to Sabah and Kalimantan markets, CCM Group of Companies Chairmen Tan Sri Hamad Kama Piah Che Othman said Monday.

He said the plant located at the Palm Oil Industrial Cluster (POIC) here was the second in Sabah and Sarawak after Bintulu and CCM's fourth facility in the Asean region would boost the group's fertilizer manufacturing capacity to 670,000 tonnes a year.

The plant, which started operations in mid-2011, will increase production by an additional 130,000 tonnes a year or about half the output of its main plant in Shah Alam, also augments CCM's position as one of the largest compound fertilizer manufacturers in Malaysia.

"We're proud to expand further into Sabah and to cater to the growing demand for quality fertilizers. With more than 1.4 million hectares of oil palm cultivation in Sabah, the plant is strategically located to ensure that growers are assured of secured supply and timely delivery of fertilizers," he said at the opening ceremony.

Hamad Kama Piah said the plant, known for its quality products and efficient service, has been awarded the Standard National Indonesia (SNI) Product Certification in February by the Indonesian authorities and is expected to receive the ISO 9001:2008 Award.
