Activity at Karachi and Qasim Ports

30/04/2012 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 127,149 tonnes of cargo comprising1 97,496 tonnes of import cargo and 29,653 tonnes of export cargo including 5,412 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Saturday.

The total import cargo of 97,496 tonnes comprised of 50,416 tonnes of containerised cargo; 9,880 tonnes of bulk cargo and 37,200 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 29,653 tonnes comprised of 13,919 tonnes of containerised cargo; 80 tonnes of general cargo; 11,154 tonnes of bulk cargo and 4,500 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

A total number of 5,412 containers include 4,299 import and 1,113 export containers were handled during the last 24 hours on Saturday.

The brake up of imported containers shows 1,039 of 20's and 1,439 of 40's of loaded while 324 of 20's and 29 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 365 of 20's and 174 of 40's loaded containers while and 152 of 20's 124 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

Three ships sailed out to sea on Saturday, while five ships are expected to sail on Sunday.

Nine vessels due to arrive on Saturday, while three vessels are due to arrive on Sunday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 79,962 tonnes, comprising 60,949 tonnes of import cargo and 19,013 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 2,438 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during last 24 hours on Saturday.

The total import cargo of 60,949 tonnes includes 38,752 tonnes of furnace oil; 1,629 tonnes of steel coil; 8,936 tonnes of chemicals and 11,632 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 19,013 tonnes includes 1,268 tonnes of wheat; 1,193 tonnes of cement and 16,552 tonnes of containerised cargo.

A furnace oil tanker MT Lahore sailed out to sea on Saturday morning.

A total number of seven vessels namely CV MSC Hena, CV Tampa Bay, MV Elicia, MV Hawk, MT Lahore, MT Stolt Helluland and MV Mercy Wisdom with containers, cement, steel coil, chemicals, furnace oil and wheat respectively during last 24 hours.

As many as three ships namely Chemroad Wing, SC Belhai and Catamarca with palm oil and cement respectively are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.

A total number of two vessels viz MT Chemroad Wing and Catamarca with palm oil and cement are expected to take berths at Liquid Cargo Terminal and Multi Purpose Terminal (MW-IV) respectively on Saturday.
