28/04/2012 (Borneo Post) - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will launch the Corridors and Cities open day to be held at the old State Legislative Assembly building at Petra Jaya today.

Members of the public are invited to the one-day event where they can see the results of the Corridors and Regional Cities Lab announced by the Prime Minister on June 21 last year.

It is jointly organised by the State Government and Prime Minister’s Office through the participation of, among others, State Planning Unit (SPU), Performance Management and Delivery Unit (Pemandu), Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda) and Public – Private Cooperation Unit (Ukas).

The main objective of the event is to inform the people of the outcome of the Corridors and Regional Cities Lab and to gauge their feedback on the proposed action plans.

Entrance is free and it is open from 10am to 5pm.

For Sarawak, the Corridors and Regional Cities Lab was conducted in Kuala Lumpur and Kuching last year and was organised and facilitated jointly by Pemandu, which is a unit in the Prime Minister’s Department.

The Sarawak Corridor Of Renewable Energy (SCORE) is a major initiative undertaken by the government to develop the central region and to transform Sarawak into a developed state by the year 2020 and beyond.

It aims to achieve the goals of accelerating the state’s economic growth and development, as well as improving the quality of life for the people of Sarawak.

SCORE is one of the five regional development corridors being developed throughout the country.

Apart from Recoda, the other corridor authorities are Iskandar Regional Development Authority, Northern Corridor Implementation Authority, East Coast Economic Region Development Council, Regional Corridor Development Authority and Sedia Sabah.

The economic corridors were established to maximise, leverage and build on existing programmes in every economic corridor and aligning them with the government’s Economic Transformation Programme (ETP).

The importance of ensuring maximum impact and benefits to the locals will also be highlighted.

The people are invited to the open day to view the various Entry Point Projects (EPP) and new opportunities in the state’s 10 key focus areas which include aluminium industry, glass industry, steel industry, oil-based industry, palm oil industry, fishing and aquaculture industry, livestock industry, timber-based industry, marine engineering and tourism industry.
