Activity at Karachi and Qasim Ports
27/04/2012 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 83,449 tonnes of cargo comprising1 49,914 tonnes of import cargo and 33,535 tonnes of export cargo including 3,772 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Thursday.
The total import cargo of 49,914 tonnes comprised of 28,202 tonnes of containerised cargo; 15 tonnes of general cargo; 21,697 tonnes of bulk cargo: 19,500 tonnes of coal and 2,197 tonnes of rock phosphate.
The total export cargo of 33,535 tonnes comprised of 30,762 tonnes of containerised cargo; 235 tonnes of general cargo and 2,538 tonnes of cement.
A total number of 3,772 containers include 1,936 import and 1,786 export containers were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.
The brake up of imported containers shows 649 of 20's and 603 of 40's of loaded while 17 of 20's and 32 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 950 of 20's and 296 of 40's loaded containers while and 54 of 20's 95 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
A container ship namely Pardis sailed out to sea during the reported period.
Three vessels Sydney, APL Brisbane and Tabea with two container ships and one coal carrier respectively are currently at the berths.
Five ships namely Sydney, APL Brisbane, Rinia, Tabea and Hellenic Horizon with three container ships, one coal carrier and one phosphoric acid ship respectively sailed out to sea on Thursday, while two ships namely Madrid Trader and Cathrina carrying one steel coil ship and one cement carrier respectively are expected to sail on Friday.
Four vessels viz Kota Azam, Madrid Trader, Bunga Azalea and MT Karachi with one container ship, one steel coil ship, one palm oil tanker and one crude oil tanker respectively due to arrive on Thursday, while eight vessels viz YM Taichung, Lara Rickmers, APL Chicago, CSL Ride, Nadeem, Winterset, Ploutos and Pacific Polaris with four container ships, two cement carrier, one mogas carrier and one naphtha ship respectively are due to arrive on Friday.
PORT QASIM A cargo volume of 80,243 tonnes, comprising 67,904 tonnes of import cargo and 12,339 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 775 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during last 24 hours on Thursday.
The total import cargo of 67,904 tonnes includes 52,426 tonnes of diesel oil; 6,500 tonnes of edible oil; 368 tonnes of steel coil and 8,610 tonnes of containerised cargo.
The total export cargo of 12,339 tonnes includes 3,564 tonnes of wheat; 1,110 tonnes of cement and 7,665 tonnes of containerised cargo.
Two ships namely CV CGM Bellini and MT Agent Iris with one container ship and one edible oil tanker sailed out to sea on Thursday morning, while another ship namely MT Al-Soor-II with one diesel oil tanker is expected to sail on the same day afternoon.
A total number of six vessels namely CV CGM Bellini, MV Elicia, Mercy Wisdom, MV Hawk, MT Al-Soor-II and MT Argent Iris with containers, wheat, cement, steel coil, diesel oil and edible oil respectively during last 24 hours.
As many as four ships namely Juist Trader, APL Chille, Stolt Helluland and MT Lahore with containers, chemicals and furnace oil respectively are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.
A total number of four vessels viz CV Juist Trader, CV APL Chille, MV Stolt Helluland and MT Lahore with containers, chemicals and furnace oil respectively are expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Engro Vopak Terminal and FOTCO Oil Terminal respectively on Thursday.
