25/04/2012 (Dow Jones) - Indonesian oil palm producer PT Astra Agro Lestari (AALI.JK) said Tuesday its net profit in the January-March period fell significantly because of lower revenue and higher costs.

Astra Agro posted a net profit of IDR377.9 billion ($41.5 million) during the first quarter, down 42% from IDR654.03 billion a year earlier.

The company said in a filing to the stock exchange its revenue in the three months ended March 31 fell to IDR2.581 trillion from IDR2.765 trillion a year earlier.

Its cost of revenue, or the total cost of producing and delivering products, rose to IDR1.84 trillion in the first quarter from IDR1.69 trillion a year earlier, resulting in a gross profit of IDR739 billion, down from IDR1.08 trillion a year earlier.
