Activity at Karachi and Qasim Ports

23/04/2012 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 101,581 tonnes of cargo comprising1 84,191 tonnes of import cargo and 17,390 tonnes of export cargo including 3,707 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Saturday.

The total import cargo of 84,191 tonnes comprised of 34,154 tonnes of containerised cargo; 292 tonnes of general cargo; 25,197 tonnes of bulk cargo and 24,548 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 17,390 tonnes comprised of 10,402 tonnes of containerised cargo; 91 tonnes of general cargo and 6,897 tonnes of bulk cargo.

A total number of 3,707 containers include 2,697 import and 1,010 export containers were handled during the last 24 hours on Saturday.

The brake up of imported containers shows 684 of 20's and 963 of 40's of loaded while 31 of 20's and 28 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 250 of 20's and 181 of 40's loaded containers while and 4 of 20's 197 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

Two ships sailed out to sea during the reported period.

Seven vessels are currently at the berths.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 24,904 tonnes, comprising 18,921 tonnes of import cargo and 5,983 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 626 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during last 24 hours on Saturday.

The total import cargo of 18,921 tonnes includes 3,500 tonnes of diesel oil; 5,840 tonnes of palm oil; 3,014 tonnes of sunflower seeds and 6,567 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 5,983 tonnes includes 2,303 tonnes of cement and 3,680 tonnes of containerised cargo.

A diesel oil ship namely MT Al-Salam-II sailed out to sea during last 24 hours, while another ship namely MV Bold World with edible oil is expected to sail out to sea on Saturday morning.

A total number of five vessels namely CV Dubai Express, MV Elicia, MV SN Queen, MV Bold World and MT Al-Salam-II with containers, cement, palm oil, sunflower seeds and diesel oil respectively during last 24 hours.

Bunga Angsana with palm oil is currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.

A total number of two vessels viz MV Mercy Wisdom and MT Dong-A Iris with wheat and edible oil respectively are expected to take berths at Grain & Fertiliser Terminal (FAP) and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Saturday.
