Activity at Karachi and Qasim Ports

21/04/2012 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 102,530 tonnes of cargo comprising1 82,590 tonnes of import cargo and 19,940 tonnes of export cargo including 1,999 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Friday.

The total import cargo of 82,590 tonnes comprised of 9,835 tonnes of containerised cargo; 117 tonnes of general cargo; 21,162 tonnes of bulk cargo: 16,500 tonnes of coal; 1,135 tonnes of palm kernel; 3,527 tonnes of rock phosphate and 51,476 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 19,940 tonnes comprised of 17,495 tonnes of containerised cargo; 1,043 tonnes of general cargo and 1,402 tonnes of cement.

A total number of 1,999 containers include 732 import and 1,267 export containers were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.

The brake up of imported containers shows 215 of 20's and 227 of 40's of loaded while 9 of 20's and 27 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 380 of 20's and NIL of 40's loaded containers while and 40 of 20's 3 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

Three ships namely Santa Balbina, APL Brisbane and MT Karachi carrying two container ships and one oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

A container vessel viz Rio Bravo is currently at the berths.

An oil tanker namely Blue Sky sailed out to sea on Friday, while two ships namely Kota Anggerik and Equator Harmony with two container ships are expected to sail on Saturday.

Four vessels viz APL Guangzhou, Kota Anggerik, CSL Ride, OOCL Dalian and UBC Cyprus with three container ships and one cement carrier respectively due to arrive on Friday, while three vessels viz Maria Princess, UASC Shuwaikh and Kang Hong with one crude oil tanker, one container ship and one steel carrier respectively are due to arrive on Saturday.

Four ships namely MOL Wind, Hyundai General, Shoko Marj and MT Quetta with two container ships, one ethanol ship and one crude oil tanker respectively are due to arrive on Sunday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 54,975 tonnes, comprising 54,945 tonnes of import cargo and 1,030 tonnes of export cargo inclusive NIL loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during last 24 hours on Friday.

The total import cargo of 54,945 tonnes includes 48,945 tonnes of diesel oil and 6,000 tonnes of edible oil.

The total export cargo includes 1,030 tonnes of cement.

Two ships namely Al-Salam-II and Bold World with diesel oil and edible oil sailed out to sea on Friday

A total number of three vessels namely MV Elicia, MT Al-Salam-II and MV Bold World with cement, diesel oil and edible oil respectively during last 24 hours.

As many as four ships namely Dubai Express, SN Queen, Dong-A Iris and Mercy Wisdom with containers, sunflower seeds, edible oil and wheat respectively are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.

A total number of three vessels viz CV Dubai Express, MV SN Queen and MT Dong-A Iris with containers, sunflower seeds and edible oil respectively are expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Grain & Fertiliser Terminal (FAP) and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Friday.
