18/04/2012 (Borneo Post) - Persafe Engineering Sdn Bhd (Persafe Engineering) and Kampung Pundut in Limbang Division, Sarawak, had successfully signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for oil palm plantation joint venture.
Persafe Engineering, a Bintulu-based company involved in the oil and gas and petrochemical sector, was represented by its executive chairman Felix George Ukab while Kampung Pundut by its village chief Thomas Idop.
The signing ceremony was held at a renowned hotel in Limbang.
This collaboration between both parties was aimed at developing 1,000 hectares of Native Customary Right (NCR) land owned by Kampong Pundut community.
The board of directors of Persafe Engineering are from Kampung Pundut themselves. Therefore, they realised that such project would bring both short and long term benefits to the community of Kampung Pundut.
This would also help raise the socio-economic standards as well as improve the basic rural infrastructure of the community in line with the Government Transformation Plan (GTP) roadmap.
Under the MoU, both parties agreed that Persafe Engineering, in its capacity as the developer, would provide the working capital and basic rural infrastructure while Kampung Pundut would provide the land and labour for the implementation of the oil palm plantation.
On the basis of this close co-operation between both parties, Persafe Engineering would adopt Kampung Pundut as ‘My Kampung’ under its company’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme.
Present at the signing ceremony were Kampung Pundut’s village chief Thomas Idop, Persafe Engineering board of directors, government officials and corporate executives, community leaders and the Village, Security and Development Committee of Kampung Pundut.
