Activity At Karachi and Qasim Ports

17/04/2012 (Business Recorder) -  The Karachi Port handled 231,384 tonnes of cargo comprising1 145,870 tonnes of import cargo and 85,514 tonnes of export cargo including 6,705 loaded & empty containers during last 48 hours ended at 0700 hours on Monday.

The total import cargo of 145,870 tonnes comprised of 102,812 tonnes of containerised cargo; 1,424 tonnes of general cargo; 39,394 tonnes of bulk cargo: 30,500 tonnes of coal; 843 tonnes of palm kernel expeller; 8,051 tonnes of rock phosphate and 2,240 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 85,514 tonnes comprised of 72,753 tonnes of containerised cargo; 421 tonnes of general cargo; 2,129 tonnes of cement and 10,200 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

A total number of 6,705 containers include 3,587 import and 3,118 export containers were handled during the last 24 hours on Monday.

The brake up of 3,587 imported containers shows 1,265 of 20's and 1,136 of 40's of loaded while 12 of 20's and 19 of 40's empty containers.

Where as that of 3,118 exported containers shows 524 of 20's and 583 of 40's loaded containers while and 224 of 20's 602 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

Six ships namely Abtin-1, APL Sharjah, CSL Ride, Wan Hai-603, YM North and Seagull-K carrying five container ships and one general cargo ship respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

Ten vessels viz Wan Hai-603, UASC Ajman, Hyundai Bangkok, Lt.

Genova, Lindavia, Ginga Lanner, Sea Faith, Aetolia, Ocean President and Blue Cat with five container ships, two oil tankers, two coal carriers and one general cargo ship respectively are currently at the berths.

Three ships namely Lt.

Genova, UASC Ajman and Blue Cat carrying two container ships and one general cargo ship respectively sailed out to sea on Monday, while four ships namely Hyundai Bangkok, Lindavia, Ginga Lanner and Aetolia with two container ships, one oil tanker and one coal carrier respectively are expected to sail on Tuesday.

A container vessel viz STX Patraikos due to arrive on Monday, while another vessel viz MT Karachi with crude oil tanker is due to arrive on Tuesday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 115,216 tonnes, comprising 97,185 tonnes of import cargo and 18,031 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 2,293 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during last 24 hours on Monday.

The total import cargo of 97,185 tonnes includes 38,281 tonnes of furnace oil; 13,500 tonnes of palm oil; 11,186 tonnes of canola seeds; 8,682 tonnes of chemicals and 25,536 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo includes 18,031 tonnes of containerised cargo.

Three ships namely CV Maersk Wyoming, CV ACX Lily and MT Lahore sailed out to sea on Monday morning, while two more ships namely CV Buxhill and MT Dong A-Tyche are expected to sail out to sea on the same day afternoon.

A total number of seven vessels namely CV Maersk Wyoming, CV ACX Lily, CV Buxhill, MT Chemroad Echo, MT Dong A-Tyche, MT Lahore and Rapallo with containers, palm oil, chemicals, furnace oil and canola seeds respectively during last 24 hours.

As many as two ships namely Safmarine Ngami and Elicia with containers and cement respectively are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.

A container vessel viz CV Safmarine Ngami is expected to take berth at Qasim International Containers Terminal on Monday.

Two container ships namely CV Maersk Kingston and CV Al-Sabahia due to arrive on Tuesday.

As many as four container vessels viz CV CMA CGM Puccini, CV SFL Avon, CV Dubai Express and CV ER Elsfeleth are also expected to arrive at Port Qasim.
