Malaysian Institute of Integrity to Raise Awareness on Good Governance and Management Practices

31/03/2012 (The Sun Daily) - In an effort to promote good governance and management practices in the public sector, the Malaysian Institute of Integrity (IIM) will organise a regional-based programme aimed to raise awareness on integrity among Commonwealth member countries.

Themed "Advancing Good Governance: Learning from Successful Experiences and Good Practices in Malaysia", the Commonwealth Asia Regional Programme is a joint collaboration between Malaysia and the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Co-operation Commonwealth Secretariat.

Some thirty senior officers is expected to attend the programme which be held at the Berjaya Times Square Hotel, Kuala Lumpur and the Malaysian Institute of Integrity.

IIM's president, Datuk Dr Mohd Tap Salleh expressed the programme will provide an opportunity for civil servants to share their experience in good governance in the public sector.

"The Commonwealth workshop is an excellent platform for IIM and Malaysia's public sector and corporate players to share insights on Malaysia's experience in good management practices and reforms with other Commonwealth countries," he said yesterday (Tuesday March 13).

A series of workshops will be conducted by prominent speakers including Performance Management and Delivery Unit (PEMANDU) director Ravindran Devagunam, Finance ministry's deputy divisional secretary (government procurement division) Datuk Hasmuddin Mohamad.

In addition, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) deputy chief commissioner (prevention) Datuk Sutinah Sutan and monitoring and co-ordination division director (NKRA Corruption) Datuk Hisham Nordin is expected to attend as well.

During the five-day event, which begins on March 19, participants will have the opportunity to attend a panel session with the High Commissioners from Bangladesh and India, with briefing sessions by the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), Performance Management and Delivery Unit (PEMANDU), Malaysia Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU), Employees Provident Fund (EPF), PETRONAS and Special Taskforce to Facilitate Business (PEMUDAH).

The results from the programme will be presented by the participants in an action plan form, which will be implemented in their countries, said Mohd.

He admitted there has been positive results from the initial programme conducted in 2009.

"For example, some of the Commonwealth countries, such as Mozambique, have adopted some of the (IIM) institute's modules. They find it is helpful in promoting good values and ethics in their country," he said.

According to IIM president, thirty senior officers from Bangladesh, Brunei, India, Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are expected to attend the programme.
