12/03/2012 (Business Recorder) - Business RecorderThe Karachi Port handled 82,515 tonnes of cargo comprising1 48,199 tonnes of import cargo and 34,316 tonnes of export cargo including 4,552 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Saturday.

The total import cargo of 48,199 tonnes comprised of 41,024 tonnes of containerised cargo; 1,919 tonnes of general cargo; 2,919 tonnes of bulk cargo and 2,337 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 34,316 tonnes comprised of 19,229 tonnes of containerised cargo; 60 tonnes of general cargo; 2,927 tonnes of bulk cargo and 12,100 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

Three ships with one container ship and two oil tankers respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

Five vessels with three container ships, one oil tanker and one general cargo ship are currently at the berths.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 75,857 tonnes, comprising 57,840 tonnes of import cargo and 18,017 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 4,036 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during last 24 hours on Saturday.

Two container ships namely CV CMA CGM Puget and CV CMA CGM Amber sailed out to sea during last 24 hours, while another ship namely MT Fair Spirit with palm oil sailed out to sea on Saturday morning.

A total number of four ships namely CV CMA CGM Amber, CV CMA CGM Puget, MT Strilen and MT Fair Spirit are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, furnace oil and palm oil respectively during last 24 hours.

A total number of two vessels viz CV MSC Reunion and MT Malpensa carrying containers and edible oil respectively are expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Saturday
