Activity At Karachi And Qasim Ports

07/03/2012 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 107,907 tonnes of cargo comprising1 47,931 tonnes of import cargo and 59,976 tonnes of export cargo including 5,702 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Tuesday.

The total import cargo of 47,931 tonnes comprised of 39,340 tonnes of containerised cargo; 2,037 tonnes of general cargo; 1,554 tonnes of wheat and 5,000 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 59,976 tonnes comprised of 52,751 tonnes of containerised cargo; 193 tonnes of general cargo; 7,032 tonnes of bulk cargo: and 5,205 tonnes of cement and 1,827 tonnes of wheat No ships namely sailed out to sea during the reported period.

Five vessels viz Hanjin Durban, Lindavia, Thalassa, Hopeful and Marika with two container ships, two general cargo ships and one oil tanker are currently at the berths.

Three container ships namely Felicities Rickmers, Lindavia and Hanjin Durban sailed out to sea on Tuesday, while three ships namely Thalassa, Hopeful and Taban-1 with two general cargo ships and one container ship are expected to sail on Wednesday.

Two vessels viz MT Lahore and Taban-1 with one crude oil tanker and one container ship due to arrive on Tuesday, while three vessels viz Viona, Tabea and Chemroad Mega with two container ships and one ethanol carrier are due to arrive on Wednesday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 95,124 tonnes, comprising 70,671 tonnes of import cargo and 24,453 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 2,057 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during last 24 hours on Tuesday.

The total import cargo of 70,671 tonnes includes 41,270 tonnes of furnace oil; 16,083 tonnes of diesel oil; 6,410 tonnes of palm oil; 8,361 tonnes of canola seeds and 14,630 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo includes 24,453 tonnes of containerised cargo.

Two container ships namely CV Maersk Carolina and CV MSC Jenney sailed out to sea on Tuesday morning, while another ship namely MV Athina-M with furnace oil is expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of five ships namely CV Maersk Carolina, CV MSC Jenney, MV Maganari, MT Harbour Clear and MV Athina-M are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, canola seeds, palm oil and furnace oil respectively during last 24 hours.

A container ship namely CV Maersk Kingston is currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.

As many as two vessels viz CV Maersk Kingston and MT Al-Salam-II carrying containers and diesel oil respectively are expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal and FOTCO Oil Terminal respectively on Tuesday.
