Philippine Gov't Eyes Palm Oil Projects In Mindana

DAVAO CITY, March 18 Asia Pulse - The government is exploring investmentopportunities from Middle East countries to invest in palm oil projects insouthern Philippines to provide livelihoods for indigenous peoples andMuslim folks in Mindanao.

Undersecretary Gerundio Madueno of the Department of Land Reform, saidthere are 150,000 hectares of land covered by Certificates of AncestralDomain Titles (CADTs) that remain idle and could be developed asproductive palm oil plantations.

He said livelihood is a major factor to achieving peace and development inMindanao.

"We are also planning to invite the private sector to a joint-venture withour agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) for entrepreneurship," Maduenosaid.

Madueno, who distributed over P51-million (US$938,795) infrastructuresupport projects in Compostela Valley last week, assured the ARBs herethat the government is keen on its support mechanisms to uplift the livingcondition of poor constituents.
