Are Palm, Soy and Canola Biodiesel On a Par With Tar Sands For GHGs?
01/02/2012 (Biofuels Digest) - In Belgium, EurActiv is reporting that leaked documents from the European Commission show that GHG emissions for biodiesels from palm oil, canola and soy are higher than fossil fuels and on a par with Canadian tar sands when emissions from ILUC are included. The anticipated ILUC factors that will likely be proposed give a factor of 105g for palm oil but 36g and 34g respectively for sugarcane and sugarbeet. The factor for corn is seen at 43g.
