23/01/2012 (Borneo Post) -The people of Sabah have been urged to be innovative and think outside of the box in efforts to woo more investments in various sectors into the state.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said although the state continued to enjoy growth in oil and gas, palm oil and tourism industries, more efforts needed to be taken to ensure a significant success in more sectors.

“These included creating a knowledgeable and skilled workforce. I am pleased to note that tertiary education is expanding in Sabah with specialised institutions of higher learning spreading out in different parts of the state.

“I am confident that more skill centres will be opened in the near future, offering quality education to the people at their doorstep,” he said in a Chinese New Year message today.

Musa, who is also state finance minister, said the government would continue to ensure a sustainable and prosperous future for the people despite criticisms levelled by certain quarters.

Citing the RM500 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) as an example of the government’s concern for the welfare of the poor, he urged them not to be hoodwinked by detractors who alleged that the government was insincere in its drive to help the people.

On the progress of the Economic Transformation Programme in Sabah, he said it was on track and had brought desired results.

He reassured the Chinese community that the government would continue to support the growth of Chinese schools, temples and cultural activities by continuing to extend financial aid.

Musa also called on Chinese non-governmental organisations such as the Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah and the Sabah United Chinese Chambers of Commerce to further strengthen Chinese culture in the state. – Bernama
