Activity at Karachi and Qasim Ports

19/01/2012 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 96,098 tonnes of cargo comprising 80,506 tonnes of import cargo and 15,592 tonnes of export cargo including 2,561 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargo of 80,506 tonnes comprised of 24,259 tonnes of containerised cargo; 16,447 tonnes of general cargo; 14,800 tonnes of coal and 25,000 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 15,592 tonnes comprised of 12,543 tonnes of containerised cargo; 80 tonnes of general cargo and 2,969 tonnes of cement.

A crude oil tanker MT Karachi sailed out to sea during the reported period.

Four vessels viz Kota Carum, Marcampania, Sino South and MT Lahore carrying two container ships, one general cargo ship and one crude oil tanker respectively are currently at the berths.

Four ships namely Shayan-1, Marcampania, Lotus and Abdul Latif-S with two container ships, one general cargo ship and one oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea on Wednesday, while four ships namely CS Discovery, Kota Carum, Sino South and MT Lahore carrying two container ships, one general cargo ship and one crude oil tanker respectively are expected to sail on Thursday.

Three vessels viz APL Brisbane, SC Tianjin and Ras Ghumays-1 carrying one container ship, one palm oil tanker and one DAP carrier respectively due to arrive on Wednesday, while ten vessels viz Southern Jaugar, Lodestar Genesis, Emirates Kabir, Al-Manakh, Tabia, YM Fuzhou, Positano, Jin Rong, Valpolicella and Anna Duro Thea carrying two chemical carriers, five container ships, one coal carrier, one talcum powder ship and one steel coils carrier respectively are due to arrive on Thursday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 70,571 tonnes, comprising 41,497 tonnes of import cargo and 29,074 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 2,431 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargo of 41,497 tonnes includes 6,000 tonnes of diesel oil; 10,250 tonnes of edible oil; 5,668 tonnes of coal; 2,567 tonnes of chemicals and 22,680 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 29,074 tonnes includes 703 tonnes of rice and 28,371 tonnes of containerised cargo.

Five ships namely Maersk Kingston, Deira, Gas Elixir, MT Chemroute Sun and MV Estia sailed out to sea on Wednesday morning, while another ship namely CV MSC Anafi is expected to sail on the same day at night.

A total number of seven vessels CV MSC Anafi, Maersk Kingston, Deira, LA Paloma, MV Estia, Gas Elixir and MT Chemroute Sun are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, rice, diesel oil, LPG mix and edible oil respectively during last 24 hours.

As many as nine ships namely MSC Jade, CGM Verdi, Akaki, Fair Spirit, Fenghai-II, Pine Galaxy, Bunga Angsana, Al-Salam-II and Leopard-B with two container ships, two furnace oil tanker, three edible oil tankers, one diesel oil tanker and one cement carrier are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.

A total number of three vessels viz CV CGM Verdi, MV Fenghai-II and MT Leopard-B carrying containers, edible oil and cement are expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Liquid Cargo Terminal and Multi Purpose Terminal (MW4) respectively on Wednesday.
