BANGKOK, July 14 Asia Pulse - The lingering drought has had a majoreffect on Thailand's fruit production and crude palm oil yields, accordingto the country's largest exporter of crude palm oil, Thai Univanich PalmOil Pcl (SET:UVAN).Univanich, one of Thailand's leading oil palm plantation and fruitprocessing companies, said in a release to the Stock Exchange of Thailandtoday that the severe drought, which started in December 2004, hadresulted in a decline in fruit production and oil yields in the secondquarter of 2005.

Germany's Cognis shifts oleochem unit to Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR/FRANKFURT, July 13 (Reuters) - German specialty chemicalsfirm Cognis is transferring its oleochemicals business to an existingjoint venture with Malaysian palm oil maker Golden Hope Plantations , thecompanies said on Wednesday.A source close to the deal said the Malaysian company will invest about200 million ringgit ($52.6 million) into the expanded joint venture. ACognis spokeswoman said financial details would not be released.

Russia: 2005 tropical oil imports

13/07/2005 (Agri Market) - Russia increased tropical oil imports in May2005 by 1.7 times compared to April. Total May imports of tropical oils toRussia made 58,600 tonnes. Coconut imports in the mentioned periodincreased by 2.2 times making up 12,300 tonnes. Pal kernel oil importsincreased by 16.7 times compared to April and made 3,800 tonnes.
